Another thing I used to do was tuck it under my armpit :)

Could that have dislocated your shoulder if there had been an impact?

Theoretically it should cope with some excess of water, though there is too much, we have some future work to do to take a section of rain water off the pipework certainly. RP leaving the ( metred) tap on often over night doesn't help, but i think rain will be worse problem.

New question for discussion: How many NPs have burglar alarms? Do you use them religiously? Nobody ever mentions them; houses for sale details never mention them. Are they something one doesn't talk about??

Off out now .... hand in notice, amble round market and the 99p shop.

I have one and never use it. TBH we don't have a huge amount of resale value. In the house. The only things are cars and bicycles that would attract money.

Smoke detectors we have 2 sorts of: one linked to the smoke alarm and one on batteries. there's some crazy statistic around that is something like 'nobody in the C21st has died in a house fire in NSW which has had a working smoke detector fitted'.

I can't see anyone stealing the stuff we see as valuable: a few of the kids' toys, my cook books, photos (electronic ones are all in the cloud).

No alarm, about 10% of houses on the street have them. Anyone breaking in would be hugely disappointed at how little of value there is especially given the amount of carp they would have to go through to discover this. I do not think there is anything that would get more than 100 quid on eBay.
    I think....

I thought it was fine to have Danny in the front because tehre's no air bag on that side. Are you saying he should be in the back only if there's an air bag, or that you advise he should be in the back anyway, air bags not relevant?

If the latter, I'll talk to OH about it, we thought it was only the issue about air bags.

Might be a lot better than nothing, though, even if far from ideal.

Anywhere without an airbag is a suitable location for a stage 1 car seat, provided it is anchored properly.

In terms of the best location within the car, its a balance between collision safety and other issues, like you being able to see him.

From a pure collision point of view, the centre rear is safer, but a lot of cars don't have suitable anchor points for that position.

There are also other issues, like if he were silent and you were driving and felt the urge to check on him, having you him in the passenger seat is safer than you turning around and being distracted.
Kermie's Brit soon - his forceps marks have pretty much gone, so he's for the chop this morning.

    Hope it goes well.

We used to have an extra convex mirror hanging from the rear view mirror so we could see into the back while minimising time taken not looking at the road ahead.

I used to put nieces in back too. My feeling is I can control looking in the back even when its hard, I cannot control what plonker goes into me.

Really, you want one parent in the front and one in the back. Likewise, the children. That way, if the back seat passengers survive but those in the front die, the children won't end up as orphans.

Both parents shouldn't go on the same flight, unless all kids are with them, for the same reason. But how many couples do that level of risk control?
