I've put that in Google Translate, and still can't find a sensible translation
Aussies similarly struggle with the term, offie.
Bottlo = Bottle Shop*
If anything, offie is particularly obscure as it refers to a form of law pertaining to the sale of liquor in the UK.
*Aussie put an 'o' on the end of words to slangify them, e.g. smoko = smoking break (now often taken without a cigarette), arvo = afternoon.0 -
Struggling with Barclays - I've never managed to achieve anything with that account since I opened it - except to randomly phone up once a year, convince them over the phone it IS me and buy an ISA from my current account money.
So, logged on OK this time, but didn't know how to move money, so called telephone banking - and he said he had to transfer me to Internet banking. Spoke to him and he said I need a card reader (5 working days). But the reader's useless as I don't have a card. He said he could send me both, if I confirmed my address. At this point we realised it's still registered at my parents' address and I can't change it online or through him, I have to speak to telephone banking, so he transferred me.
Back to telephone banking, he changed my address and said he could send me the card reader, but not the card, so he put me back to Internet banking.
Internet banking confirmed my address and said he would send me a card reader, but as I also wanted a debit card he'd have to upgrade my account, which he did. But he couldn't order a debit card and transferred me to the team that do that.
At this point we were 26 minutes into the call.
They can't do a debit card over the phone. Apparently I don't have a current account, so I can't have a debit card (I used to have one, which they might have enabled me to close down in the past as I wasn't using it).
So, to get a debit card, to put into the card reader that's on its way, I have to visit a branch and open a current account, then wait for a debit card to arrive.
Once the card reader has arrived and the debit card, I can log onto my accounts and move the money out of my accounts.
And this is why I don't bank with Barclays.... I've never ever had the right mix of cards/accounts/codes/equipment.....0 -

But I'm sending the Vibes to Generali and LiR. I do it every day, sit in porch and send the Vibes.
Anyway, today I thought I'd send a virtual bouquet, or rather the virtual space for you to pick your virtual bouquet IYSWIM.IMG_6725 by ukmaggie45, on Flickr
You get pink rose buds (Rosa the New Dawn), red and white valerian, and lavender to choose from. Might cheat and add in some Lady's Mantle from the back garden too, as its lime green flowers look so great with the pale and dark pink in the bouquet... No pics at the mo as it's dark here now!

I was on the phone for 1 hour and 14 minutes yesterday getting a PAC code for my son's T Mobile account.
56 minutes of that was on hold before I even spoke to a human, and probably another 10 minutes on hold after that !!!!
They thought I'd give up 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
Pasturesnew, would it be worth opening a current account with them, transfering money to current account and then out? Why can't you do it online?“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Just asked on the ISAs board what to do with my 5 Barclays ISAs. I've never understood them, I just knew you were supposed to buy them... and I managed to achieve that once a year..... but now it's time to move them, cash them in, whatever is appropriate.....
Scared that this will lead me to troubles hitherto unknown in my universe of simplicity.0 -

That is what I am having to do - and the man said I have to go to a branch, with ID. Found a branch where there's free parking just 2.5 miles away though.... so it's not so bad as the branch I knew about which is 3 miles away and you have to pay for parking
I'll be going there later to moan and whine.
All I really want to do is get my savings out and into my regular bank account to buy the house.
A lot of "apply for a bank account" tricks on the Internet involve you thinking you're setting up an account, then on the last screen they say "Thank you ... we are now writing to you ...." then you get a letter that doesn't say "Here's your account", instead it says "Thank you - now you have to take X,Y,Z to a branch within 14 days".
That's why I've about 12 other accounts I "half opened" as I got to the last screen and never went further as the address I gave in the application was my parents and by the time they forwarded the letter I [a] was too late couldn't be 4rsed/had found other accounts that didn't do that.
Half opened accounts, according to my fat file here, include: Halifax, AA, The Post Office, Alliance and Leicester, Kaupthing Edge, Principality, NS&I.
At the time the "savings guarantee" was for £35k, so I was trying to spread the money about.
Accounts I'm currrently juggling are: CoOp (2 accounts), Nationwide (2 accounts), Barclays (2 accounts and 5 ISAs), Sainsburys, FirstSave.
Edit: Just checked the Barclays site for my savings account and it says
This could suit you if:
You want instant access to your money with no withdrawal restrictions
You want an account you can manage by phone, in your branch or online
I started with a current account and savings account.... then, one day, the telephone banking person suggested I close the current account as I am not using it ..... without pointing out I can't get the money out if I do that!0
