That's the trouble ... they tell you one thing, but then when you try it there's always an issue, a problem, a new hoop to jump through. Because of the fears I've got I plan to have the completion funds in place 2 days before completion, giving me a whole day to "sort it" .... every bank has different methods, different ways .... today I managed, for the first time ever, to log onto my NW account (several attempts at "registering" for Internet banking that simply failed in the past) .... and I moved money from one account to the other, just to check I could :)

Banks.... you can't trust what they tell you - and until you actually are performing a transaction/task (for the first/last time ever in your life) you've no idea what hiccups you'll hit.
Agreed. I was very angry with the guff tesco bank & santander told me.
Based on previous experience, I didn't trust santander to not phuq things up, so I closed the isa with them regardless.
I did have a day or 2 sweating on the lloyds accounts because of tesco. It took me an hour to realise I could transfer from the 3 seperate accounts.

    So...

Someone nicked two plants from my front garden overnight.

They were flamingo plants, I bought them online a few months ago and hadn't got round to working out if they were going to go straight into the ground or into pots. They looked a bit of a state because I'd had a couple of (pre-water butt and hanging baskets) spells of not watering them properly. So there were a lot of dead brown bits, but a really good amount of new growth too (I'd just not got round to trimming them).

My first thoughts this morning (after looking around the garden to check they were actually missing) was that I hope whoever has them is looking after them and that it could have been someone thinking they were rescuing them as they've been sat out the front for a few months but just in the pots they came in and have clearly been through some tough times. Or drunk people on the way home from watching the football.

Now that's giving way to feeling uncomfortable that someone came right up to my front door in the middle of the night :( And took what clearly wasn't theirs.
Lollipop lady leaves her lollipop up the side of new jelly. That got snapped in half recently, which means someone was up the side of the house.
    Cue re-thinking security etc....:(
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Maybe it was the groin thrusting that made somebody try to enter your back passage :)

There was some programme on a random freeview channel late last night .... that was all about security/cameras on houses. They had several people there showing their kit and why they had it all.

They also showed some rich people..... who were paying £10k/year to have their entire house and family (and dog) monitored 24/7. One fella's kids were playing in the dark in the driveway (with golf clubs) and the security people phoned him to ask if everything was OK... he said the kids were playing hide and seek.

One bloke lives in what, 10 years ago, was the "most desirable place to live in England" - and now it's full of student HMOs. He uploads his videos to Youtube.

Morning Gen. Very nearly 9 down, 6 to go is it?

Which super power would the NP choose?
either time travel, or invisibility, or ability to fly.
    Can I have 3?:D
At least you are on the home run for treatment now Generali. And this should be the end of it.

I absolutely understand why fatigue is more of an issue than what sounds like nasty pain.

I wonder if LJ or anyone here with experience knows how long the fatigue is likely to last for you?

Eating still ok? Is hot, or acidic or scratchy food uncomfortable?

    Icecream? Jelly? Pasta?
In my experience, the fatigue stays a bit for about a month. Approx 3 weeks after the end, you'll slowly feel less lethargic. You'll start feeling a bit more able. Be careful at this time, make sure you can walk before you run!

My friend has also suggested you speak with your dentist Gen! She had to have some work done a few years later, as the radiotherapy affected the jaw bone. She suggested you ask now in case there is any preventative stuff you can do. If not, take good care of your teeth.

maggie - I have 3 overgrown rosebushes in the garden. The flowers look lovely. I'm not 100% I want to keep them, but if I were, & wanted to prune them back, what is the best way, especially to encourage them to grow some more?

Pn, if you don't need every penny to buy the new house, it's worth hanging onto the ISAs rather than other deposits.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I was on the phone for 1 hour and 14 minutes yesterday getting a PAC code for my son's T Mobile account.

56 minutes of that was on hold before I even spoke to a human, and probably another 10 minutes on hold after that !!!!

They thought I'd give up

Now it is possible to do 15 k pa into isas and given they generally pay low rates especially for non tax payers it is no longer the issue it was IMHO.

NatWest did a special card for DW that had no purpose other than to let those with savings accounts only use the card reader for online banking. The readers are generally interchange geable between banks. I still think k you may be able to do the Barclay's transfer in branch without opening a new account.
    I think....

PN, sometimes it is easier to just tell a bank you want to close the account and send you the money. Could be a lot quicker and a lot less hassle.

I had major rows on the phone with Santander, which ended up with her telling me I wasn't allowed to speak to my son in my own home.

I have given up with Barclays Pingit; it just won't set up and the further effort involved is not worth the hassle.

If you go to findmypast and find a newspaper article about an ancestor, then with repeated querying of words/phrases from the snippet they give you and filtering it down tight to the date, it's possible to work out what went on.

I've found my G-Grandfather (who brought up mum) had a case dismissed after being accused of poaching and caught with a blackbird .... and one of his sons was a thieving little teen tearaway who terrorised the neighbourhood until he was put into "industrial school" for 2 years. I really need to get sight of the actual article at some point - my G-Grandmother attended the Court case.

Would a blackbird not be a wild bird, so not anybody's property? So, how could you poach one, even if you caught it on somebody else's land?

Yes, I agree. It depends on the numbers, though.

That is what I am having to do - and the man said I have to go to a branch, with ID. Found a branch where there's free parking just 2.5 miles away though.... so it's not so bad as the branch I knew about which is 3 miles away and you have to pay for parking :)

I'll be going there later to moan and whine.

All I really want to do is get my savings out and into my regular bank account to buy the house.

A lot of "apply for a bank account" tricks on the Internet involve you thinking you're setting up an account, then on the last screen they say "Thank you ... we are now writing to you ...." then you get a letter that doesn't say "Here's your account", instead it says "Thank you - now you have to take X,Y,Z to a branch within 14 days".

That's why I've about 12 other accounts I "half opened" as I got to the last screen and never went further as the address I gave in the application was my parents and by the time they forwarded the letter I [a] was too late couldn't be 4rsed/had found other accounts that didn't do that.

Half opened accounts, according to my fat file here, include: Halifax, AA, The Post Office, Alliance and Leicester, Kaupthing Edge, Principality, NS&I.

At the time the "savings guarantee" was for £35k, so I was trying to spread the money about.

Accounts I'm currrently juggling are: CoOp (2 accounts), Nationwide (2 accounts), Barclays (2 accounts and 5 ISAs), Sainsburys, FirstSave.

Edit: Just checked the Barclays site for my savings account and it says

Clearly not true ... the tiny print at the bottom then says " Online and telephone access is only available to Barclays current account holders who are registered for Barclays Online and Telephone Banking. You will need a Barclays current account and your debit card to register for Barclays Online Banking."

I started with a current account and savings account.... then, one day, the telephone banking person suggested I close the current account as I am not using it ..... without pointing out I can't get the money out if I do that!

I had to get money out of my Santander ISA when we bought - just went into the branch with my passport and asked them to close the account and pay it into my current account with a different bank. Money showed up in about half an hour.
