It's the same for the science graduates here, watching BBC science programmes. These manage to be a combination of superficiality and taking ages to get through very simple concepts.
A lot are but not all of them. I thought that series a while ago by Marcus du Sautoy on the history of measurement was excellent. Did you see that? Not easy enough for me I'm afraid. Agree with Dr. Tifosi. That Wonders of the Body (or whatever it was called) was looking promising, then spoiled for me when he started looking down a microscope. Telescope yes, microscope no. Surely there are other decent science communicators in other scientific disciplines? Are we only allowed one or two token scientists on TV?
I agree with Dr Tifosi and Nikkster. Besides which, Brian Cox now just reminds me of the various historical scientists on "Horrible Histories" who are all called Brian and clearly take-offs of him. This one is typical.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

No, I did not see him. Shame. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Great opportunity to get round ikea quickly tonight then. But not as good as the final night will be.
Best avoided.0 -
Working in an analytical department rather than having a sweep we have to name golden boot and the results (WDL) of all the group matches and that is just for round one - in future rounds we will also have to predict scores
Look up the odds on Betfair and use the lowest odds correct score to pick.
My mate knows zero about soccer and did that for a predictions game. He won.0 -
No, I did not see him. Shame.
The thing that really bugs me about the BBC is how short a time they leave things like that available on the iplayer. If it had been on channel 4 it would be on 4od forever, but because it's BBC you now can't watch it. :mad:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? That frustrates me too. I've paid for it - why can't I watch it!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

For you and other Aussie-interested types - the decline of Australian slang.
I particularly like "Go off like a bucket of prawns in the sun - cause a commotion"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-27805070Anyone ever used Emla cream? My ear is really starting to hurt now and it was recommended by a Doctor friend. It's bloody expensive though.
It's the recommended local anaesthetic cream for circumcisions - does that commend it to you, or not?
Hope you find something that works....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

The clunkier phrases like that and the bathmat one have disappeared. There are plenty of Aussie words and phrases still however.
I love 'rort' (rip-off) which is used as a noun ("Credit card fees are such a rort") and a verb ("His back is fine, he's just rorting the system"). TBH I dispute that 'fair dinkum' is disappearing although you most often hear it as a question meaning, 'Are you telling me the truth?'.
The Aussie tradition for playing with words is still often seen in business names, much more than in the UK. There is a rather crude play on the word 'Liquor' in the name of a bottle shop in the gay strip on Oxford St which appeals to my puerile sense of humour.
I'm on the way to the chemist. If it's good enough for a young Jewish fellow's old chap it's good enough for my ear.0 -

This is always my big gripe about stuff we pay for .... we pay for it and the "keepers" keep it from us. Rationing..... it's not on. It's some weird power trip.0
