Sigh.
I'm still making my chocolate pudding face. I hope generali is going to have some.
We bought two mangos yesterday and made a really nice pud of mango dressed with lime and we have one left so I might do the same again. We have semifreddo left so I'll probably serve that up to the others. All nice enough, but not the stick to my teeth choc pud I'd eat in a perfect world. I'm usually only this stuck on chocolate stuff when hormones govern.0 -
Random science question, requiring a super-easy answer.
If the universe is expanding at 1million miles per hour ..... how come we can still see any of it? It's been going for years and years already ... at 1million mph how come it's all not been long gone from our ability to see it still?0 -

Phew!
Not my kind of science

We can only see the stars (and the distant galaxies) because their light intensity is just so extreme. There may be parts so distant that light hasn't had time to reach us and, if they're retreating fast enough, their light never will.
In billions of years time our group of galaxies, or what's left of it may be isolated from the rest of the universe. Long time off, that. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I can get my head round that ....... their light intensity is just so extreme....
I guess the bigger question is: if the Universe is expanding... what is it expanding into? Are we still just a sneeze in something much bigger....?
I can't envisage "nothing" or "infinity".... I used to imagine the end of the Universe when I was about 5-8.... and then thought about taking one more step and what'd be there... and the answer has to be there's something there..... so there is no end, but if you can't have an end, it's unfathomable.0 -

That's the weird bit, It's outsideless.
It's manufacturing the space it's expanding into. You couldn't stand far away and think I better get out of the way before that expanding universe hits me.
When it was new and young it was tiny, but a better description would be to say it was less roomy, as you couldn't stand outside and say "that's a small universe".There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Oh zag, you and Pastures make me want to burst into song...
"Our whole universe was in a hot dense state
then nearly 14 billion years ago expansion started, wait
the earth began to cool
the autotrophs began to drool
neanderthals developed tools
we built a wall
(we built the pyramids)
maths science history
unravelling the mysteries
that all started with the Big Bang.."Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Time for me to bore you lot with some more garden pics

To give you an idea of the before...
Here was the pic after the Buddleia had it's haircut:
(the weeds on the patio had another 4-6- weeks growing time, though I'd made a start on removing them)
And here was the garden this morning after yeterday's combined efforts:
(I've got pic of that corner from my first 'gardening' session, will try and add it later - photobucket is playing up on my phone this evening)
and
(the weeds between the paving slabs by the shed were taller than the pots)
You can't see it in either of those photos but the edge of the patio and lawn has been rediscovered

My dad took, and still has, photos of me with chicken pox, me with swollen face after having wisdom teeth out, etc.
My husband is unable to resist setting up photographs of people with "things" growing out of their heads.
Our DD is often the victim. We have a photo of her on a horse wearing a riding hat with a silver vent, there is a floodlight growing seamlessly out of it. She looks tanned and smiley in a holiday photo with a seamless palmtree growing from her head and we have a graduation day photo with a metal bar through her neck whilst an ex boyfriend is crowned by a large bell. However my current favourite is of a good friend in Verona with a light bulb on his head.
The trouble is OH does take quite good piccies otherwise it would never be worth the risk of succumbing to his lens.0 -

We're rooting for you!
