I think it is the only 'sport' that pits 2 people against each other in this way. Other sports have another skill involved.

I think you might be wrong.... there's a shin kicking http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin-kicking championships every year

Even less skill, ability, training, equipment and practise required :)

There is no end to the human condition of stupidity!

At least they can wear shin pads made of straw. No such protection in professional boxing.

The worst part about boxing is the insistence of wearing gloves to maximise the impact of the punches.

I used to quite enjoy boxing but having loads of world champions and so many weights is annoying. I have done some fighting sports myself although not boxed really. The Generalissimos have so done fighting sports. I think all girls should grow up being able to fight off a man if they so choose.

I have never watched that, so don't get the joke.

it's really funny and also potentially offensive. It's a sitcom about a family where the baby is shown as a criminal genius who believes he has escaped from being falsely imprisoned inside his mother. Instead of loving her he detests her and would happily see her die, and tries to conspire ways to do it.

He speaks like an adult but it is deliberately unclear and ambiguous in the show whether everyone hears and understands him.

or do you actually have [STRIKE]decent[/STRIKE] deaf people living next door who don't mind his drumming?

It'd reduce me to a jibbering, sobbing wreck :)
I'd get severe anxiety that it was about to start .... dreadful din, any instrument/singing.

Perhaps when you know you will be going out?

Well, firstly I don't know when I'll be going out .... it's a question of need/motivation/momentum and weather.... and secondly it's for about an hour once every 7-10 days (the spuds/eggs/milk/bread run).

    :)

I had a friend who was a drummer in a band - he soundproofed his garage to the nth degree and drummed out there.

Great cover and super track. Well done to Middle son.

Quick question, he isn't playing on pads or an electronic kit. Do you not have neighbours, or do you actually have decent people living next door who don't mind his drumming?

The kit lives at my parent's house and all the neighbours (who are in the more advanced years category) absolutely love it. When he hasn't played for a while, they all moan and ask when he will be playing again!

He does try to be considerate though, he only plays at the most 3 times a week, never for longer than 45 mins and always finishing before 5pm.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I would have thought soundproofing a room in the house would be better as the walls are double thickness?

It wasn't his house - it was a smal modern (1980s) Semi that his dad owned and he/his brother lived in. So the garage was best/easiest.

Drummers definitely have a hard time when it comes to practising. But, I would prefer to listen to rhythmical drumming, than a guitarist forever playing 'smoke on the water' or 'stairway to heaven'.

Luckily, the walls at my parent's house are quite good at blocking the noise somewhat.

He has several guitars (acoustic and electric), a keyboard and ukelele at home...the guitars are played either without the amp or with the amp very very low.

When he isn't playing any of those, he composes music instead, he is currently putting together an instrumental album in different styles including classical.

I agree. I did Kick Boxing when I was younger. But with the majority of martial arts, it's about disabling the aggressor for long enough so you can get the heck out of Dodge. It's not about staying put and fighting, in the hope your superior speed and agility can get one over on their natural strength.

I was taught much the same thing: inflicting pain or knocking someone to the floor should give you enough of a head start to get away.
