I wonder if being a home owner makes going back to work harder, something to do with it being your home not just where you sleep.
Don't get me started on Herts Highways, they kept telling us that it was the run of cold winters that broke the roads, this winter was almost frost free and the roads were worse than ever. Even the bit they fixed for the Olympic batten (including only one side of a dual carriageway in Viva town) relay is broken again.
Failed multiquote but aren't there airports closer to DG than Soufend?
Oh and LIR, you are well hot so you must have been amazing before....
Thanks michaels.
The way it works with roads I think is that once degraded through frost/ice the rain erodes. The kind of rain we had last winter and I. Spring erodes a lot bits that have been damaged but hanging together.0 -
Tonight it's not so much the going back to work it's the things I should have done this weekend. And there was a whole extra day in which to do them. Though I looked at my work diary for this week and it looks rather hectic :eek:I wonder if being a home owner makes going back to work harder, something to do with it being your home not just where you sleep.

Edit: As someone who is still a relatively new homeowner (not long until I lose my 'most recent NP homeowner' title
), it feels the same as when I rented. Sorry

If it is not potholes it is wrongly angled speed humps. There are some on a hill near us, but they are not angled into the hill, so you have to go at 5mph or there is a loud thud when you go over them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. :Tlir, it is not a competition. And even if it was, you do in fact have a lot to contend with, objectively speaking, and you cope a lot better than I would, or most of the rest of the NP, I imagine. So stop apologising for finding it tough.
Please don't feel you can't tell the NP when you are depressed. We are here for each other, as you would know perfectly well if it was any of the rest of us going through the mill, in the bad times as well as the good ones, or the "hooray I am now feeling better" times.
Glad you are feeling better right now. Enjoy it, but don't overdo it. Please?
I'm not going to tell you not to feel ashamed of your weight, because I know that none of us can change our feelings by an effort of will. But do please remember that the NP still love you, value you and want you around, regardless of how much you weigh. Although of course we will celebrate with you if you do lose weight, because we know that's what you want. Oh, and remember that lots of us have met you, and however much you may prefer how you look without the extra weight that your health troubles have given you, the weight has never succeeded in making you anything even beginning to approach ugly.
Perhaps it is easier to relate to white foreigners, than non-white ones?Interesting. When I meet people with concerns about immigration (and it isn't actually a frequent topic of conversation, but when it does happen to crop up) they mostly have nothing against Eastern Europeans, and are quite capable of behaving normally towards any that they meet; they just don't want the population of this country to go up any more - they have concerns about overstretching the infrastructure and the NHS and so on.
I remember working somewhere, where the organisation was regularly heavily criticised for the BME make up of its, er, "customers" (in the region of 98+% white british). In order to acheive targets, they'd go to the local polish church to encourage some applicants to "meet" their BME targets.
Fundamentally disagree. You were aware, noticed, & took precautionary action.I am stupid, stupid, stupid.
Did the hoovering.:) Walked the dog then started feeling iffy, turned back and got home feeling very ropey, took dextrose, tested and I was on the verge of a hypo.
Obvious if you think about it. I however had forgotten all about 'levels' because I was only at home, having a good day and only doing normal things. Should have checked myself after hoovering.
It's a gradual thing for you, but you're clearly becoming so much more aware of your own body, & how it is burning up the sugar.
IMO you've made some massive progress in a very short period of time.:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

A picnic & a nice rambling walk somewhere?
Ikea do stuff, for example:I've seen lights built into stairs and up skirting boards. I would think lights on a handrail risk getting hot.

They've allsorts which would suit Nikksters needs/ideas/imagination.

I have no idea if either are still there, haven't been in about 30 years, even though it is probably the closest seaside from here.
Sue may know Southend, thinking about it. I think I went to speedway there once with my dad. Though that was even longer ago and I don't know if that's still there either.
Afraid I have only been there twice in my entire life....so not much help really. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Took the boys to see Godzilla at the cinema today, cheap Monday tickets so slightly more MSE than it sounds.
Afterwards it was down to mum and dad's where I did some more paint stripping in their old downstairs out of use but wanting to be put back in use toilet.

Potholes round here have got a lot worse this winter. The worst one just round the corner from my house did get fixed within a couple of weeks of appearing, though, which I thought was quite impressive.
I've seen lights built into stairs and up skirting boards. I would think lights on a handrail risk getting hot.
LEDs won't get hot, as other posters have mentioned. However, lights on a handrail tend to get bashed by people using the handrail to put their hands on, and LED Christmas lights aren't really robust enough to put up with that kind of treatment year round. I put some round ours last Christmas and then left them up, intending to use them occasionally even when it wasn't Christmas, but I haven't got round to turning them on, and now they've broken.
However, my stairs don't have traditional bannisters with lots of upright rods and one rail connecting them. I have few uprights, but a middle rail as well as a top one, like this:
So next time I'm intending to wind them round the lower rail, where there won't be hands.
While searching for pictures of staircases, I found this, which would not feel safe to me:
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

The more I hear hospital tales from down South, the more I think there is a definite North South divide, but in the North's favour.
When Mr Bugs had to be rushed into hospital one evening mid week, he had a four room bay to himself, three or four people popping by in the hour I was there, to check the heart, ask questions, take bloods. Then smoothly whisked away to a ward. Very reassuring.
I found the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson wing of UCH (the maternity part of University College Hospital) irritating in some ways for ante-natal care, in that not a single appointment started within 20 minutes of the time it was supposed to. But the care itself was great. The ante-natal ward, and labour ward and operating theatre when I actually had Nice Baby were all fantastic, the care was incredibly good, and all the midwives and doctors I met were impressive, helpful, and reassuring. It was much, much better than when Isaac was born in the EGA in 2005, when it was still in its original Victorian red brick building.
OTOH, when my mother was taken to the William Harvey in Ashford before she was diagnosed with cancer, she felt pretty much ignored. She was there for 3 days before they got round to doing the test that showed she didn't have a heart problem at all, but rather it was fluid on the outside of her lung. My Dad's far from impressive patience snapped before they discovered that the fluid was caused by a tumour, and he'd whisked her away to the Cromwell Hospital in London where they identified that (not an NHS hospital).5 exams and 50 miles down (50 miles of school/exam runs since Tuesday mid morning, in reality, it is much more as he had exams last Thursday, Monday and first thing Tuesday morning!).....too many to count to go.
Day off from the exam running around today, just the nice simple drop off (talk to school), collection run of the mill day.
He is coping ok at the moment apart from being very very tired, although he did have a stressy outburst on Tuesday night.
Has he finished his exams yet, Sue? Hope youngest (and you) are OK and are getting through the period....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
