We managed just over half day trip. :). Seems big improvement, no?

Drive was quicker than I thought, ( For was driving so I had added an hour mentally to the time each way but actually, he drove as nipping as a nippy thing).

Spent a whole heap load of money. Thought about calling the doozer's to see if they were about but thought it was rude at such short notice .

Kiwi came with us and was BEAUTIFULLY behaved with a cat and a dog he met who were great chums and we saw a GORGEous house. First time DH has admitted he likes a house 'as much as' ours. ( it. Was several hundred times nicer and bigger than ours!)

Sounds like a nice day! I'm glad you're feeling well.

The doozers were in London this weekend, got back around 5, but a couple of hours notice to hoover and clean the toilets is usually fine!

I meed to do an airport run to Southend on Wednesday morning. Wondering if it's worth taking DD somewhere near there tomorrow and staying over? Otherwise it's a six hour drive!

What you just said about the lights in the 70s... do you remember - I think it was on something like Tomorrow's World - people showing you could pedal a bike to power a 60w bulb?

Imagine how easy it would be to generate that output for the few watts you need for an equivalent bulb now.

I don't remember that. We didn't watch Tomorrow's World often; it's not something dad would want on... and he chose the channels :)

It is amazing how rapidly technology's changed. When I think that my g-grandmother was born before cars and electricity were invented! She didn't even have an oven until she was about 60!

When I get an electrician in to make some changes here, I think I'm going to see if I can get a socket put in next to the stairs for some lights on the handrail. I know you can get battery operated ones, but I'd be more likely to use them if they ran off the mains.

I've seen lights built into stairs and up skirting boards. I would think lights on a handrail risk getting hot.

I don't know their policy silver, but I'm pretty sure that round here those in power don't either. Wasn't it the head of the RAC who broke his suspension on a pothole in St Albans?

There's a road near here that is the most logical way to work, but I never take it as turning right onto the main right I feel that the pothole I'm trying to avoid is going to pull my wheel off. If I try to pull out slowly, then I'll get hit by a car coming round the corner. Madness... It's been like that for months even though it has been reported several times.

When I drove down to lir's I kept thinking how much better maintained the roads were in her county.

We are very near county town. That makes a huge differenc.e. ALSo, tough I know you went EVERY where :D. You came on a very important logitics route from motorway. That logistics route is quite potholes this year actually, ( my guess is that bugslet might no about that)

Our road ( and those all around us ) was resurfaced since we were here and we told them they were nuts to resurface our road. As the main necessity users are us, and tractors its a waste of !!!!!!!g money.

    :)

We often joke here highways have a road side budget that they feel they HAVE to spend! not that they can spend up to. Its very disappointing, because there are more valuable things that could be done with the money.

We are a very wealthy county, and we are where many logistical bases are We should have good main roads. We don't need ( or want) curbed rural roads or suburbanisation of our roads over this side of the main road. .

The roads near here were dire. Pot holes were filled but would wash out again very quickly. It has been a problem for years and quick fixes were not fixing it. They were being 'repaired' frequently due to the volume of reporting. OH and I had both replaced a couple of tyres each due to pot holes in the last year alone. You had to remember where the worst holes were as they 'grabbed' your wheel and slewed the car. Hitting them at even modest speed was awful and there had been accidents.

About three months ago we had lots of rural road closures (including our own) and the roads have been resurfaced. If you visited us you could admire how well maintained the roads are now

Interesting, thanks lir. I wonder where bugs thinks the best roads are.

There is an airport at Southend?

I think the 'outing' sounds like making fun out of a chore. What a nice mum.
