I can't see people voting UKIP in the General Election.
It'll be interesting to see where the voters have come for ukip. I can't imagine too many Labour supporters voting for them but I suppose they must have done.0 -
I can see that TBH. Often in business, good enough is good enough IYSWIM.
There has to be a balance between quantity and quality of output. Most of us are working for Toyota not Rolls Royce. By trying to make everything into a Rolls we're screwing with the business model.
Mismatch of expectations in healthcare provision through lower cost models of care (good enough) and expectation of patient experience and also what most clinical staff want to deliver (higher quality).
High expectations of ethics, fast translation of new techniques/therapies into treatment, good care/communications every time, tailored to the individual and local.0 -
I'd like to suggest that all NPs who are parents might find this interesting.
Not least because it links to my fave Professor Hertfordshire's top brainbox Richard Wiseman.
Wonder how many NPs remember 8-track cartridges, a kind of tape used in cars that only had one button, for changing between four sections of the tape. And an eject button of course. NO play/FF or RW buttons.
My grandfather had a reel-to-reel tape recorder. It was the size of a typewriter and a lot heavier. FF and RW you had to hold the switch to the left or right and it would screech. A lot of stretched and shredded tapes from memory.HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »Very worrying indeed.

The only people I know who have admitted to voting UKIP said they did so in an anti-Euro protest and would never do so in general or local elections. What exactly they think UKIP will do for them in the European parliament is debatable.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Don't quote, will delete...
I know someone who is standing as an MP for UKIP next general election. He's a good guy and not at all extremist. When I asked him what motivated him to stand, he said he didn't like politics as usual and that there was an opportunity to shape a better policy for businesses. He is anti immigration but definitely not racist. I still don't get it though. I don't think he'll get in as the sitting MP is too good/popular. If he did, he'd certainly be a safer pair of hands than some of those that UKIP have had to chuck out. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I wonder.
If all these people who have voted UKIP get the message that UKIP can do nothing in Europe, they could be persuaded to vote UKIP in a general election, "just to register a protest vote", "just the once". If UKIP can get the message across that they need power in Westminster to reduce Europe's influence can they get support? On yesterday's results I think they may have enough critical mass to do so.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. You make the point very well.
UkIP, for all their protestations, are really a single issue party (out of Europe) with a little sweetener on the side of cutting immigration. I guess a platform of 'a once in a lifetime opportunity' could sell.0 -
On a lighter note, a good friend visited from the UK a while back and brought with him a few beers. It turns out that I inadvertently saved the best til last, a fine brew called Sheepshgger.0

There was a BBC reporter on the news this morning, at a car boot sale somewhere like Nottingham... he was trying to go round and randomly chat to stallholders about things..... and those he spoke to either had no clue about anything or wouldn't speak to him.I wonder.
If all these people ...
At one point he did say "It just goes to show - the further from London you get the less people feel interested in this stuff that seems massively important if you live in London".
Like I said yesterday - most people really don't know, don't have the time to know/understand... and will just vote for whoever their mum/dad did, or will vote based on one leaflet's one-line promise ..... which won't be delivered.0 -

Time for a new direction? Instead of all that Jeremy Kyle watching you could investigate importing and distributing beers from the homeland
Then, once established, branch out into artisan Brit Beer Breads.... and beer-based chutneys.0 -
I've been to 2 christenings: The Boy's and The Girl's.
At The Girl's I asked if we could sing Jerusalem or Abide With Me, both songs are associated with English sport.
The vicar had us all sing Bread of Heaven instead. He was Welsh.
I've been to 5 baptisms and one naming ceremony and catered all of them. All of mine were baptised, the other three events were for my sister's children.
My christening was a joint one with my cousin who was born 10 days before me, it was held in a lovely little church in Sussex.
We had Jerusalem at my wedding. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
