I don't like the idea of one that lifts up like that. I put stuff on my bed too often. Currently I have a divan base with 4 drawers that open to the sides, but I've had the base since 1993 and the mattress since 1999, so it's up for replacement as soon as I get my money next month.

I'd like drawers again, to use the whole, or nearly the whole, of the space, but I'm interested in things that solve the problem of not being able to put a bedside table next to the bed without obstructing the head-end drawers. Will have to investigate. Suggestions from NP welcome. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Wall shelf above bed?

We have bedside cabinets in my wardrobe because none of my hanging stuff is long and I don't have shoes or old handbags filling up the bottom either.
    I think....

I never put anything on my bed .... what do you put on your bed, I can't even imagine what it could be??

Yeah, stop putting stuff on your bed, get an ottoman and get loads more storage than 4 drawers would give (especially as the bottoms drop out of drawers ... and after 10-15 years they can be a bit iffy opening/closing .. and, as you say, you can't use two of the drawers.

I like the modern aesthetic of Scandinavian design. My first hifi that wasn't a music centre (if anybody remembers those!) was Bang & Olufsen. Almost all the furniture we bought for every house we've owned was from IKEA.

I do find it tedious putting it together though. DW's better at that than me.

I know lots of people like it. I'm happy for them. I even enjoy going shopping for it with them. But it doesn't appeal to me for my own home. Maybe it's having been brought up in a home where almost none of the furniture had been bought new - there was some cheap second hand stuff, and some actually quite valuable inherited antique stuff, and some random "somebody gave it to us" stuff, like an octagonal coffee table from Trinidad with loads of very detailed carving and some ivory inlay, for example. So what makes me feel at home is an eclectic mix of not too plain shapes, mostly in natural or stained (but never painted) wood.

Apprpos of nothing I got a text overnight from my newish mobile phone providers telling me I'd used up all my included data. When I looked I've just started a new billing period today.

That was much more pleasing than I expected it to be. A bit like thinking you've lost a tenner and then finding it in the back pocket of your trousers.

I dunno. Anything. It's a flat surface, so sometimes I put stuff on it. My phone. My keys. My handbag. My jacket if I come home from work and decide to change into a jumper or something, and haven't yet bothered hanging it back up again.

I can certainly use three of the drawers. I don't need more than one bedside table with only one of me sleeping there. Actually, I use all 4 of the drawers and don't have a bedside table. Instead I reach across and up and put stuff on the chest of drawers that's a foot or two away. But it does mean that the head end drawer on that side doesn't open all the way, and the stuff that would usually go on a bedside table is just a little far away, which is a reason why I often end up leaving books etc on the other half of the bed rather than on the chest of drawers.

In any case, I don't want one cavernous space. I'd rather have different spaces - one drawer for towels, one for bedding, etc.

I'd go 2nd hand, except it'd all be pretty low grade and make the place look like a jumble sale. As the house is very new, it'd just be another house of mismatched stuff .... and I'd like new things.... as few and as cheap as possible though.

We have a 4.5 tog on in winter and a 1 tog in Summer (not yet mind). We also don't have the heater on in the bedroom unless it is below zero out and then it's on low. However ours is a relatively new house and very well insulated.

Good luck to the three NP who are getting much closer to owning their own homes. Have my fingers crossed for you. Typing is very difficult.

We have a 13.5 tog duvet all year round. Heating goes off about 11.30pm and on again at 6am in winter.

We have 4 drawers under the bed. Top 2 are difficult to access as the bedside cupboards are fitted so the whole bed needs moving.

DS1 has sliding doors to the underbed storage, so access is easy but the space is one large area.
