This is an extremely important point. When people hear Russia being booed, it's easy to think that it's all about the Ukraine situation, but its a very small part of it. What this year's Eurovision has been about more than anything else is the sexual politics of Europe.
Wow. When you follow the twitter feed, the impression was it was all about the politics. I never thought it was about the anti-gay stance. I hope this gets covered in the press.
I thought she was amazing, after the original confusion of why would anyone who wants to be a woman cultivate a beard, I got her individualism. Would like to know how anyone with such big hands can have such a narrow body?
Listening to the winner's song, it sounded like something Andrew Lloyd Webber would write.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I had heard that the anti russian feeling was very much to do with the russian governmentshomophobia. The fabulously camp dental hygienist I see goes to every Eurovision, partly for the show and partly because as he says, it's full of gay men. It's quite the highlight of his year.0

I've never heard anyone call him that, or thought about him in connection with the name, and so it wouldn't do. It's also not a Jewish / Biblical name (Robert). I don't think it would mean much to my Dad either, the only people who ever call him that are cold callers and passport officials (-:
OH says the same thing about not naming after living relatives - he says it's like measuring people up for a coffin, saying they don't need the name any more. Although his mother's brother is Isaac / Yitshak as well, it was obvious we were calling him after OH's Dad, so there was no issue there.
The thing that bothers me about Elijah is that we had a cat called that, Yossie's brother. If it's iffy naming people after living relatives, I'm definitely unsure about calling our son after a dead cat!
It could be worse. At least the cat wasn't called Mr Tiddles or something.0 -

When I was a kid there was a comedy series called Mork and Mindy about an alien from another planet. He drank through his finger, aged in reverse, and he had a painting of ihis homeworld's night sky with three beautiful moons which were sacred to his people.
They had the ludicrously underwhelming names Lumpy, Squeezy and Jojo. Now that takes imagination.:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Youngest has reached his goal....he finished building his super duper gaming desktop computer tonight (with a £100 loan from his grandad who wanted to see the thing up and running ASAP).
He's gone from around 35 fps playing Minecraft on low settings, to over 1000 fps at the same settings. Change the settings to a higher spec and he is still getting hugely high fps.
Been a long slog for him, think he has been saving and buying the components for about 18 months/2 years now.
So very proud of him, he may not be able to talk to people or deal with the social side of life but he has got one very good brain up there for the technical side of things. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Happy Australian mother's day everyone.
We went with the in laws to a big buffet at the casino. Pure class as you can imagine.
The food wasn't bad actually. I had a particularly good pork chop with apple and sage (the 'sage' looked suspiciously like thyme). The broccoli was very good too and the prawns weren't bad albeit they were those dodgy Vietnamese ones. The kids thought it was amazing, especially the chocolate fountain.
MiL paid which was very MSE for me although less so for her.I did the decent thing and bought all the mums some champers at least.0 -
Brrrrr,
Its a horrid day here. We helped with cows this morning. They didn't want to go out at all.
To grim for anything outside to be enjoyable, so we're going to sow some seeds in trays in doors.0 -
I'm with the cows, I don't want to go anywhere, either....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

It's a bit sunny here.... with light grey clouds threatening rain.0
