Nikkster and Masomnia, hugs to you both.

LiR knows my news already, but I thought the rest of the Nice People might find it interesting. Late yesterday morning OH looked out the window, to see loads of insects flying round our magnolia tree. Making an almighty humming noise we could hear even through the double glazed doors. A swarm of bees! Eventually they all settled in the crab apple tree on the other side of the garden.

OH called the cops, and they gave him the number for a bee keeper. He tried phoning round a number of keepers, but it seemed as if nobody would make it that day. OH had to take DD1 and GS3 to station to go home to London, so I was sitting in the front porch having a quiet smoke when a gentleman came up the garden path and enquired if we were the house with bees! So I took him through to the kitchen so he could see the swarm. It turns out he only lives 6 houses along from us! So he popped back home to fetch his gear. I took photos of the swarm, and also of him collecting the swarm.

He then went down to the Allotments where we have a half plot, and managed to make contact with the bee keepers down there. They came up at around 6pm, wrapped the box containing the swarm, and drove it down to the Allotments, where handily they had just acquired a third hive! :)

Here's the swarm in the crab apple tree, just as a taster!

14114246221_83abcccbf1.jpgI think this shows more or less the whole swarm by ukmaggie45, on Flickr

Our neighbour bee keeper said it was a very big swarm, a Prime Swarm. He also thanked us for doing the right thing and contacting someone to come and fetch it - apparently some folks just poison bees in their gardens.

It's a good job you're a smoker!!! If you'd been a secret eater you wouldn't have wanted that lot buzzing round your jam sandwiches!

Poor darling Nik! Scoff some cake, and I hope you feel better tomorrow <hugs>
Where do other NPs leave their oven shelves to soak?

Do you mean the grill types things that slot in?

They don't need washing often, and when they do, I stick them in the sink in very hot water, and then turn them the other way up to do the other half. Or stick them in the dishwasher.

I've done absolutely nothing today. I'm supposed to be shopping, cleaning, going for a run... Just want to sit in my room and feel sorry for myself :(

I'm going to try and have a shower in a bit, maybe that'll perk me up a bit. Might feel more like going out if I look presentable.

LIR's advice is great -both you and Nik should have lovely clean bedlinen tonight, and cuddle up feeling post-bath and pampered.

Aren't swarms amazing, in a sort of scary way?

My parents have a couple of nests of honey bees round their place every year, and a beekeeper from a nearby villages who comes to collect extra swarms (a couple a year, usually). They are pretty intimidating!

Brilliant photo, Maggie! A hell of a lot closer than I'd have got to it, you're much braver than I am.

I just mean regular oven shelves - you open the door and shove your pie in ..... the shelf that it sits on. The shiny metal shelves inside.

They don't fit into kitchen sinks though - sinks are small, not nearly big enough.

I've no dishwasher, never had one.

So the shelves need to be removed from the oven, then put into something large enough for them to soak in .... and the bath is the only thing big enough.

All finally over with the Bulgarian girl :( It's been on the cards for a while now, so I didn't think I'd be this gutted. I really thought it might be going somewhere. Quite a long time since I've cried over a girl.

Might vote UKIP just to spite her.
    You poor thing.

If you haven't had a cry over a girl for a long time then while you are purging your system of her remember its a good thing that you can still feel so much and that the experiences, positive ad negative, make you a better partner for the future.

You seem a great person, I don't think the nice people are worried about your romantic future :) You are at an exciting time of life, but scary, as what comes next is still such a mystery, but what ever direction you go in you are free to make the most of whatever opportunities you find. I'm sure there will be many. :)

Hope the tears dry, but not too quick, because it shows it was worth it. :). We're here.

lir has posted what I wanted to say, only said better. Being single and wanting to find the right person is supposed to be exciting, but often it's just painful, or lonely. I hope someone comes along soon who's a good fit to who you are.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A bucket with the mop removed?

I'd have to keep an eye out ... still needs a bigger bucket than a usual and "another bucket" would need somewhere to be kept (so it'd be out in the shed)..... It's not something required on day one (hopefully).

They wouldn't keep either heat in or light out, though (curtains, not buckets or ovens).

Maggie is a brilliant photographer, and if would have been nervous too. Our old bees were super friendly though, and I have photos where they all seem to be looking up at the camera. I never once suited up because I didn't LAN to get close, I always ended up peering right in though, they were too friendly, and that's what got them in the end, they were not mean to the wasps who moved in and killed them. :(
