We bought a polti last year. It is OK, not a miracle worker but a useful tool.
I like it best of all for cleaning skirting boards and around pipes/radiators. It really does get to places you cannot easily reach. Good in the kitchen on Aga top and doors, also blasting around the kitchen bin, magimix, kitchenaid, dishwasher door/hinges to ensure the cases are really clean.
OH does inside windows with it.
As we have to store it in our pantry it is a bit of a pfaff so we probably get it out about once ever 3-4 weeks.
So not only have I managed without a steam cleaner for all these years,i have also managed without cleaning some of the things that owners of steam cleaners regularly clean, or at least clean to a high standard.
So possessing one would mean I have to spend more time cleaning.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I resent that.:)
No one has ever accused me of having a high standard of cleanliness before.0 -
This week I am only at work for Tues and Weds. :jIn theory fab, but I am a bit worried about how I am going to get everything done .
I have had a work problem given to me to resolve, however at the outset I wrote down my criteria for being able to complete it successfully. I am seeing our CEO tomorrow evening to give an update, and to recommend an external consultant to take this over from me. I am trying to be disciplined and rational about my health/working time but still working my way through it. I am not saying no to work, but finding solutions that do not involve me working full time or longer.
Wish me luck. I think my stance may be a bit of a surprise.0 -

Sounds as though you've thought it all through very carefully. Let us know how the CEO responds.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Hope it goes OK Sue; offering an alternative solution is often half the battle if they can see how it would work that way.0

Have just realised I forgot to open a bottle of wine with my tea. Is it justifiable to open it to eat with a part of an Easter egg?!0

Silvercar,
How did you get on with cooking over Passover? It was a marathon of courses and roasts you last posted about. It sounded like you were fulfilling the traditions.
I thought of you over the weekend and I only had to cook for the four days of Easter and as it has turned out when it has been just us only cooked main meals. I feel as if I have not made enough effort, for what is a 'holiday'.
Friday night we had friends over and several courses, that was fine and I was happy with it, Saturday a turkey breast joint from the farm shop served as a traditional roast, cranbury sauce, pigs in blankets, not stuffing though. I have never bought this before, we usually only buy whole birds. Convenient but felt some taste was lost, although lots left for sandwiches and possibly a pie. We were off to a party after dinner so I justified it being 'ordinary' as we were going out.
Sunday was meant to be roast lamb, after lunch out and there being only two of us for dinner we could not be bothered. The joint has gone in the freezer. We ate salad and sandwiches.
Tonight we have roast duck, roast potatoes, red cabbage, sweet potatoes, carrots. peas. There is smoked salmon to start, but no one wants it so I will leave it.
No special puddings, a HM cake but not a simnel cake. Don't get me wrong we have a busy sociable weekend I just feel like I have not kept any traditions. We did not even go to Church on Easter Sunday. OH and DD had a good haul of chocolate eggs and chocolate rabbits. I had a small egg from DD and a surprise of pair of joseph siebal clogs from OH as I love them..so that was very good. i have pair I live in, so spares are appreciated.
Is it just me feeling this was a break but not 'special' did other NP keep traditions?0 -

In my current state of inertia most things are more effort than I can manage. We went to church, and we ate hot cross buns, and that was about it. Food has been whatever I could summon the energy to deal with. I failed to get round to getting eggs for my kids, but my dad gave one to each of the three of us, and I have promised the kids some other form of cheapish present to make up for it. They are happy with this and have forgiven me.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I picked Isaac and OH up from the station while my mother and one of my sisters went to church, yesterday. Some of us painted eggs in the morning, others helped my mother cook dinner, and we all had roast lamb, veggies and rubbarb and apple crumble.
Waited until the rain stopped, and then went for a stroll (parents, sisters, brother, uncle, me, OH, son, and 3 dogs) and then son and my Bruv played football for 90 minutes and got covered in mud.
I missed traditional smoked haddock and cod pie on Friday, because I wasn't here, and am opting out of the shepherd's pie this evening because meat is definitely still not an option for me.
My mother's made simnel cake and lots of hot cross buns (gluten-free and gluten-full) and supplied lots of chocolate eggs. You have to be possessive about chocolate round my Dad, he assumes that any lying about is his unless actually grabbed away from him........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The joys of working for an airline... DH worked this weekend. I worked Saturday for a colleague so that they could have the weekend off with their family (they did another Saturday so that I could be with DH, win/win). It hasn't been much of an Easter here. Though the choc egg downing is progressing nicely. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
