Glad he was sweet about it anyway. I imagine 3.5 months is a LOT shorter than the length of time since I last used public transport.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I read that Daily Mail article earlier this morning. I've got to say I thought it was the biggest load of nonsense I've read in a very long time. And I read the DM website rather more than I would like to admit to!
No wonder the rest of the world think we're a strange nation if they're led to believe we all go around judging ourselves and everyone else on the things in that list.
Edit: that 'how posh are you' quiz was fine - it clearly wasn't taking itself seriously. The article (and I'm guessing also the book) didn't come across so tongue in cheek to me.0 -

My sister texted me something similar - if you want to catch a bus from the village near my parents' house, you need a calendar rather than a time table.
In central London, though, tubes, buses, trains and walking all melt into one another....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Er... given that the English race has continued to exist for a thousand years I'm pretty sure that English women like sex just as much as any other nationality.
Possibly they just don't like it with you?:p:D
?
This made me laugh, and splutter my mint tea.
I will look for a Generali riposte.0 -

I should be actually leaving for Kent - I know my Mama's being hopping up and down since she left on Thursday, and now the battery on the car is sorted, I ought to get going.
I'm just feeling idle, the thought of putting my stuff in the car and clearing the fridge out and emptying the rubbish seems less appealing than sitting on my backside, drinking tea and reading the NP thread (-:
OH and Isaac are leaving Israel at some appalling time (like 5am) so they'll be in Kent about 10am, for Easter....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

We have what I suppose if I HAVE to think about the subject, not something I no
Ther with much, a non u four by four. The reason was we hoped it would do the same job as the defender but give us the bonus of better fuel consumption and a more decent interior, and a particularly advantage relevant to big dog.
Apart from big dog it hasn't met our needs.
I don't want a discovery or range rover, I don't want or need a big car, but I do need a meaty four by four, which is why I have to look at swb defender a gain, Those little LR and range rovers don't have the oomph to do the job sadly I think. Why they don't brink something out that's swb to park fairly and reasonably in Town and capable of grunt work but comfortable and I don't know. Most people I suppose have two cars nowadays.. I just think the chances are I'm going to have to sacrifice my licence in the next few years, so having two cars will be really stupid then. A second car for us would barely get used.
I'd have thought a landcruiser might suit?I think....0 -

At a loose end, I went to one of those "mortgage affordability calculators". I've no intention of ever getting a mortgage, but as an idle passing of time I did wonder "how much?"
So ... I pretended I had a job and keyed in a salary. I told it I didn't have any outgoings/debts/loans and how much the council tax is. I told them how much I have and the result showed that I'd be mortgageable to about £25k.
... so, as I suspected, there's no point in ever considering a mortgage as the amount I could get wouldn't go any way towards being useful.0
