Sounds like a teenagers job list!

You can give a teenager a job list...............just don't expect any of them to get done.

Just done week 5 of the Ariely course. Got bouyed during it, as I realised that the last week is the week before the earliest possible completion date :)

Anyways, you learn something new & all that. So question for the jewish NP's, why are jews not to smoke on the sabbath?
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

The trouble I have every morning, as I sit here on the sofa, is that I have to close my curtains as the sun's right in my eyes :)

I've just been considering .... in my house ... giving the whole living room a "Beach Hut Look" :)

As I can never afford a beach hut (can afford to buy one, but the annual costs of ownership are about £1500 for rent on the space, so that's not feasible) ... I figured: why not turn the whole living room and the garden into a beach hut/beach scene :)

Given enough "oomph" I could even consider painting the end fence as a sea scene with a row of beach huts painted on that too (of course, that'd never actually happen as I can't paint one colour, never mind painting "things")
    p

Walls will remain whatever they are (magnolia?) and at some future point I'd paint them white (2015-2016).

I see it as giving me a focus for what to buy and why ... a "theme", rather than picking random/unmatching items just because they were cheap and I needed something.... wouldn't ever "blow the budget", but it might mean I'd buy plain/pale curtains, rather than patterned ones ... which I might, in time/with some experience behind me, then hand print with appropriate stencils in a subtle way...

I only thought of the wall sticker-type things due to the first post I quoted. There are some nicer (and less nice) ones here:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/141108249019?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0
I'm toying (at a very preliminary stage) with getting some kind of mural/ scene wallpaper for the bit of 'wall' that is facing you if you stand at the top of the stairs (which meets the corners I can't reach with my extending duster). Possibly something foresty, but depends on what colour the area by the front door/ landing end up being. Looong way off.

Definitely know what you mean about not just buying the first cheap thing that will do - I'm just buying things I really like as and when I see them. I'm sure it's going to take forever and a day to get my house done up nicely, but hopefully it will be 'me' and I'll enjoy wafting round in it when I've done it. Until then I can cope with my studentsville-themed decor :)

Should anyone want to sponsor my darling OH for the marathon on Sunday, please do PM me - I don't want to put the page up here, because it's got his full name in it.

The short modern orthodox answer would be along the lines that you can't light it as you can't create a fire. There would also be issues around changing the state of the cigarette from solid to gas.

There may be the wider issue of not doing stuff that you know is damaging to your health. That would apply to any day, not just the sabbath, but there would be the extra impetus to give your body a break from smoke inhalation.

Is there also a problem with putting out a fire, as well as creating it? So if you smoke then stub it out?

At least two nice people share the first three letters of their names with the first three of 'nice people' - and there is a male version. Greek name, however, and 4th century. I think it's close enough, what about you, Nikkster?
