Go on then, out you go.:)
My DD is doing 10K race for life in July. The physio has however said she must not run at present because her hypermobile joints are not great currently. She usually runs with the dog but she is not able to do that at present.0 -
That almost has to be up there with mushrooms, science and Jewishness... the number of nice people with hypermobile joints, either themselves or in family.
Speaking of which, does anyone have any tips for dealing with hypermobile hips?. I know I stand wrong to start with, due to hypermobile knees (I stand with my legs tucked back) and it I am starting to get hip problems, I will go to my doc and wait six months to get a physio appt, but prior to that, has anyone got any quick tips that could help strengthen?
I am getting a lot of hip pain, arthritis has been ruled out, definitely muscular/tendon/ligaments. I walk with normal, long strides then get a pain in my groin and have to walk around like I'm wearing a really tight pencil skirt with no vents. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

May I ask what happens if you don't hyperextended your knees? ( to any hyper mobile jointed people) Do they 'pop out' more easily or feel unstable? Apologies if its too personal a question, please just ignore it if so.
What exercise is suitable, would something like tai chi or Pilates/ yoga which supported posture and muscle awareness help? No idea...just musing?0 -
Knees as a rule don't pop out. I went through a period a couple of years back where if I turned right, my knee cap stayed where it was and that was exceptionally painful to the point that you couldn't stand up until it clicked back. However with lots of walking and building the muscles around the knees, that has solved itself (ie I've solved the side to side mobility but still have back/front hypermobility).
The issue with my hips is that I stand for long periods of time and when I do I stand with my knees locked back as far as they go like the person in the shorts in the middle picture here:

I have been making a conscious effort not to stand like this, but the problem with standing and walking like it is that your hips go out too. So having solved the knees (sort of) I now need to sort out the hips. Does that make sense?
ETA: as a result of posting this and looking for pics I've found a couple of useful websites, which is handy. I tend to avoid yoga as I find it too easy and get myself into ludicrous poses which I shouldn't be able to do and then hurt like heck the following day. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Yes it makes sense.
It occurs to me, as a young person when I did things that placed very unnatural and contraindicatory tortious on my body I was supported by Alex ander technique. It might very well be worth looking into viva.0 -
Thanks lir. I will look into it. Almost certainly I have made this worse by latin dancing, but you get such a lovely line from doing it. Pressure cookers aren't remotely as dangerous as people think. In my work we had them whistling away all the time sterilising things and there's nothing to it. Very little to go wrong. You do get in the habit of leaving timers on everywhere. They will destroy food almost as quickly as they cook it, so careful with vegetables.
Just realised that our dog's "stuffed rat" toy contains catnip and when he plays with it he resembles the cats in the youtube vids about catnip. Wonder if the's one of the dogs who're susceptible to it.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
