Even now when time is mine the sort of ' then put in oven' or 'cook for x time' adds a schedule to that day, a deadline during which that time can be used constructively knowing there is finite time. E.g. Now I am back on a 'take it easy' warning, there is not too much harm I can do pottering house work for an hour, but if I put macputer down and got too stuck in I could get carried away. Or just see the endless work and not put macputer down to start!
An hour is long enough to give the kitchen 'benches' a good clean, and get the inside of the windows down, or maybe tackle the wood work of the two big doors. Wipe out the fridge, that sort of thing.
Or long enough to pour a glass of wine/ drink of choice, and have some crudite or a salad first course having prepped what ever having with meat balls so that can be turned on at appropriate time, so that when the things are cooked, you dish up, sit down and relax.
Oven door open after ward is heating for kitchen, and you can cook other stuff in oven to heat up more quickly or eat cold for other meals.....
I never dare leave anything cooking, I'd have to check every 5 minutes that the oven's still working and there isn't a problem/fire.
New kitchen is a separate room from the living room - other side of the hallway/stairs, which isn't what I wanted .... I guess I'll end up getting a telly in the kitchen so I can stay in there while things cook.
As for cleaning the kitchen while I'm in there - there's only so much mess one person who is careful/clean can ever make.0 -

Oooh, it's a bit like being in one of those fly on the wall documentaries:oPlease stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I like the friendly and civilised interactions, and the occasional dog / cat photos. I think of you all every time I make a mushroom omelette. I may even post a bit more often in future.
You can have my share of the mushrooms :beer:Sometimes wonder if we need to teach people how to live their lives in terms of the finances and legalities- like e.g maybe nudging pregnant women and their partners to sort out wills etc. Advising workers how to prepare financially for retiremrnt.
Pregnant women with any sense do that anyway (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Its not just mess though ( we are really messy) its cleaning......wood work, benches etc need a going over even if they are really tidy, and windows etc.
If you keep opening the oven I can see why costs would go up a lot for you:D. Clean oven doors let you have a great look in.
Tv is a good idea. I have to admit ours gets used a lot.
another idea would be an hours worth of smaller craft time that could be done while you are in there, so you can relax and not worry being far away, but use the time in a way that feels good to you.0 -

We're not that interesting, we'd have the pilot scrapped
There used to be a TV programme called House Party on in the daytimes back in the 1970s ... a bunch of middle class women would call round in the afternoon and just natter in a setting that made it look like a real house and as if they were neighbours .... it's probably about as sad as that.

No space for craft in there ..... that'd be mucky. Mucky stuff's done where mucky stuff can be "left until next time"0 -
I have the machine to make it but not the time.
It's always interesting talking about stuff like this with people that aren't parents: it is unbelievable how much time kids take up. I'd tell you but you wouldn't believe me.
Most parents don't believe how much I do in the kitchen.
I have to admit your exploits always make me feel like an underachiever....I think....0 -

I was thinking that about you yesterday. We were buying some stuff at feed merchant and they were giving five pound vouchers for each amount spent and I thought, ....I know michaels would be making this make much more sense......:o0 -
I've been so busy, and there's 10 pages of NPs that I've just skipped. I hope I haven't missed anything too serious.
I spotted an estate agent's blurb that says "This property excludes elegance and charm..."
I hope you and your family are doing OK, GDB.
My brain has gone blank and I can't think what's happened over the last 10 days except that Gen has had Leon removed, but his doctors still aren't sure what Leon was. Meanwhile, lir is enjoying having hot water that comes out of a tap instead of a kettle, but maybe she was already doing that before you went away - the time all blurs for me so I've no idea how long ago things were.
Good spot with the EA blurb. Made me smile. Thanks.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Now probably isn't the time to mention that I'm going to have another go at the 3 Peaks Challenge, 150 miles through the Snowy Mountains in a day then.
It's in a year. I failed to complete last time due to hypothermia. I will succeed this time. No doubts.0
