This morning I googled "Clubs in ...." to see what was out there. Found a cycling club .... won't be joining that :)

They seem to expect you, for "social/easy cycling" to be able to trundle along at 11mph as a minimum - with higher speeds being usual/preferable. I know I did 9 miles in 1.5 hours once .... so I'm too much of an old lady on a bike for them. There were other reasons too, but speed's the main excluder :)

Although my 9 miles route was up some fierce hills .... I've no idea what speed I actually do. Plus, I "come over funny" randomly (low blood pressure?) so I'd feel too much of a liability if I can't choose the route with this in mind, that I might want to stop and feel queer for 10 minutes before setting off again at a slow speed.

Cycling's not my thing, with other people's expectations to meet; my preferred "sitting down sport" is much less obligation to others.

Next time you visit you can check your blood pressure with my not brilliantly accurate cuff.

As of Friday until further notice I have to test severl times a day.

I think mine's variable. Dr tests in the past have said I've high blood pressure and low blood pressure. Any physical exertions (even simple box moving) makes me go light headed though. Any bending/standing does.

I think variable pressure is not that great PN. Only because I happened upon reading something about it while reading about what happened to me on Friday.

Now you have bought a house would you PLEASE register at a doctor to discuss minor issues at? Your are precious, and I worry.

Ah well, at least you've already made the Generalissimos :)

I will rise above this tawdry humour.
We have this far more often that dauphinoise.

Both are things that look like a lot more effort has been put in that has which please people:D

Australian potatoes are inexplicably not very good. They take an absolute age to cook. Pommes boulangere would take about a week to cook over here. Seriously, boiling potatoes to make mash takes well over 40 minutes and that's when you chop them up really small. I boiled spuds for almost an hour today to make roasts.

There aren't many things in the Australian supermarket that are substantially worse than in the English one. Potatoes most certainly are. You can't buy a decent chicken in Aus either. Those horrible cage things, and the quasi cage 'free range', ones are easily available but you can't get a good chook.

Lunch went well. The pates were really good, even if I do say so myself.. Lamb was cooked to perfection. I was slightly disappointed with the Yorkies. The roasts were ok, not up to my best. Grrrrravy was grrrrrreat. I also made a sort of quasi ratatouille in the end as one of our guests is allergic to peppers and I forgot to put in any of the herbs except thyme as I was distracted telling my cancer story.

Pudding tasted good but it was a little bit undercooked in the middle:

We have half of pudding left. I have a team meeting first thing on a Monday morning to set the tone for the week. I might set the tone with pudding.

Is it worthwhile/allowable/legal to import some British varieties and grow some yourself?

A quick Google, without reading through, looks like they're well on the way to approving UK spuds

I'd be getting that one checked out pronto.

I'm not a doctor but you smoke and you have what sounds like a problem with physical exertion.

I don't want to be alarmist but you are laying yourself open to a lot of nasty things by smoking and you have symptoms of something or other.

You can get British variety seed potatoes. King Edwards and Marias Pipers are both available. At present I have neither the time nor the space to grow them. That will change.

I suspect the problem is rain. We get a lot of rain in Australia, Sydney gets twice as much rain as London, but it tends to come all at once rather than slowly and steadily. A lot of our soil is hydrophobic on top of that so the rain doesn't soak in much.

I'm in Brizzie most years as Mrs Generali has a load of family up there and they're the nicer parts of the family. I'll check it out. There's also a really nice French-style patisserie in Brisbane, surprisingly. It's very Australian-French rather than French but it's still pretty yummy.

Well, my particular circumstance of having a decree nisi but not a decree absolute must be very rare, but actually lots of people are separated for quite a while before getting divorced. A no fault divorce requires 2 years of separation, and quite a lot of people do that. In fact, I know of another traffic fatality of somebody who was separated, but I don't know anything about his widow or her circumstances, and I've never met her...

...Death can come suddenly and with no warning at all, at any age, as it did for LNE with his road accident at the age of 39. If your arrangements aren't already how you would want them to be, then sort it without further delay.

Can't go into specifics for reasons of confidentiality, but I have had a case like yours with LNE where as a trustee I've had to rule on a life assurance allocation for someone who had died in an accident but not changed their paperwork. It definitely happens. The sad thing is that the rules for us were pretty much black and white, so we may not have been able to do what the person would have liked at that moment in time because they hadn't submitted a change.
