This afternoon I planted seeds in tray in my potting shed - courgettes, rosemary, runner beans and some sweet peas. The over seen by the chooks I planted mixed lettuce, little gem and radishes in my new raised bed. the chooks had already been in there despite OH rigging up a 6 ft netting. So I have now put a further barrier up.

Cute moment of the afternoon was when picking up the lid of the compost dalek two little mouse faces stared up at me from a cosy nest they had made. I put the lid down quickly so I hope I have not disturbed them.

    Not so good events:

1)DD's horse slipped and fell this afternoon. He is alright she has a twisted ankle and a bag of frozen peas on her right knee. She has hypermobile joints - she is dislocating quite regularly and her knees are a particular problem at present tracking side to side non vertical.

    2) I cut a corner driving into the village and knocked over two bollards. They will never get up again. I have damageded my front bumper, the underside of the car has some cover hanging off and no power steering. Limped the car home , but it is not really driveable. I felt really weird - not sure if I had some sort of hypo - I had just had a coffee and cake (coffee with caffiene) at the farm shop. Definitely not myself. After the bump I disentangled myself and went to the Ag merchants in search of the item I wanted. Then limped the car home, where I was more disappointed about my lack of a big watering tray than the damage. OH has called in, he was looking at me like a I needed care, and DD is treating me as sort of imbecile.

Lovely set of seeds sown there Spirit :D I won't be sowing my courgettes or beans for another 3 weeks or so as I don't have outdoor frost-free space, but the sweet peas are sitting in my back room on the floor doing sweet nothing at the moment (despite my glares regularly at them :rotfl: ).

Sorry to hear about the car; hope it's easy and not too expensive to fix and that you feel OK soon :(

I thought it was horse radish, was going to say that the flavour is strong.

Apologies for my earlier ramblings, I hit a low point.

You can have too much of a good thing.

When OH worked in the airline industry I was fine going on trips with him, generally my days were my own and unless he was with a client we could choose how we spent our evenings. Some of his colleagues were a hoot and we had a fabulous month in California where we felt amongst freinds but could also please ourselves.

    Not so this job.

When he is away he is often in meetings or being 'hosted' by city officials from 8am to gone midnight. He comes back exhausted. He gets to see and do some fab things and it seems whingey to consider it 'tough' in any sense. If I have gone to any events I can have time to my self but he is pretty much "on duty" and I as I am there it seems necessary to attend diplomatic 'receptions' or formal dinners with him. The novelty wore off quickly, so I no longer go.

He is away for 20 days in May and I am not going to any of the three places . He is going to Quebec June and has asked if I would like to go, his meetings are very official but we will have few days to ourselves so I am still thinking about it.

Next week he has a three day board meeting and has arranged it in a city 25 miles up the road:T I am not going to any dinners associated with that either. Gosh I sound miserable.

Did you par boil the daughinoise before layering them on? That's what's best to do ...

My mum used to make a "casserole" ... it's sad how little access to information people had back then, so if you made stuff that wasn't great you couldn't improve it or look for new ways. She'd put 4 small chops or some raw mince in a casserole dish, sprinkle some bisto over it, chop some carrots in, add water, layer raw potatoes on top and stick it in the oven for some time with the lid on, then take the lid off.

Potatoes would rarely be done ... and carrots often like bullets.

I don't think this sounds miserable.

Its fine when you are well and vigourous etc, but when you are busy as you have been, and frankly, still are, and have energy to consider, then its a lot of effort to go and remember that while he is working you are in essence on duty in a way to.
    P

(Edit: btw, DH made Herculean effort to be here for one night over the weekend my birthday was. He was in Brussels 'really', I was worried about him travelling so much for just one night together. If I'd had a passport/some oomph/ whatever I suppose I could have gone to Brussels.....I liked it. But...I have no passport and no oomph and no whatever! ;) its just how the cookie crumbles. DH is away that sort of number of days every month I suppose, I'd not thought of it quite like that, the away days, I think of it the together days really. OMG, I just found the optimistic bot of me left over ! )

Cars get fixed. Are you ok? That's all that matters. And importantly, what was the cake like? :).

I was basically brought up on that, but with onions and cooked on the hob.

Sorry to hear that Spirit :( Hope you're ok, and that there isn't too much damage to the car.

Couldn't have onions in any food - mum didn't like them.
