Oh, please tell me I'm not the only NP who thinks those chandeliers are vile things!
    :D

    You are not...

I have mixed feelings about them. They look much better IRL than in my photos, plus when we were eating in that room in the evening and they were lit, and the wall mirrors with gilded chandeliers on them were sparkling the whole room was quite spectacular. It's got a huge collection of paintings too, mostly family portraits I think, but didn't really have time to look at them. I think what caught my fancy was how totally bonkers they were! :rotfl:

    Hola!

I am in hospital being spoiled rotten.....

Keel over as you walk in you don't even have to walk over to get your free coffee! Much more fussy than at home where a dog might think you look up for a hug.

Pole is gone! Everything gone according to plan today but for the fact the stupid electricity provider won't connect us because it was off when they arrived. We will be moving from them this week. I have an electrician coming in the morning to do it instead. Candlelit evening. :)

Big dog doing ok, but for the fact she is so fat.....so well that deposite being told there was no way she'd be allowed home before tonight, maybe tomorrow, she was allowed home this morning.

But the big news.....kiwi caught in is first monster rat. MONSTER. He waited till it was worth it. I'll take him out on night patrol when I get home, we'll see if he can get a few more.

I've spent so much time living in bland, neutrally decorated rented flats with nothing on the wall that I think I find anything that isn't like that a bit odd. I'm not quite sure what is going to happen when we can finally do what we like to the decor. Will probably do something horrendous that scares visitors away or makes them sick or at least put up far too many pictures so the whole place looks cluttered.

I think my favourite chandeliers ever are the ones in one of the caf!s in San Marc's square in Venice that have little blackamoor heads all over them. Totally bonkers, totally ott and yet very beautiful.

The sort of Marie redress candy coloured ones like 'yours' I thing are remarkable and huge fun, and I appreciate them, I wouldn't chose them for my home, but other bonkers ones I might. I like the blackamoor ones, the weird bunk of fruits ones, even some of the floral ones.

I can't believe none of the phones on board never 'spoke' to any base stations as the plane flew by - me thinks there is still info not being released....

I'd wondered about that. Even if the plane did land on the ground, you wonder why the phones didn't start connecting at that point - unless they were out of range of a phone mast??

In other, trivial news, I am completely absorbed by Mr Selfridge. :lovethoug

Me too. Need to catch up on the last two episodes though (I'm rather partial to the French chap!).

I think I'm the closest to having a cry that I've been since moving in.
Apologies in advance to lir - nothing on your scale of heating woe.

Boiler was playing up more than usual over the weekend, except this time it was also coming up with some raised pressure readings. So I called the plumber that installed the thing and has done the landlord safety things since. Said he's on holiday for this week but could come first thing today. After not working from getting home on Friday, it decided it was going to play on Sunday, so thankfully I made sure Ishowered/ washed my hair before it changed its mind.

Plumber comes round this morning, says as it's an intermittent fault (of which there was no sign this morning, of course) he'd advise not doing anything. Fine. I can cope with that. Suggested the raised pressure was because the fill valve hadn't been shut properly (not convinced, but whatever).

He then decided to check the expansion vessel as apparently the pressure went up quite a lot when the boiler came on. It doesn't seem to need replacing, just a bit of reinflation.

Plumber is off on his way with a thankfully not too big cheque.

I go back 5 minutes later and the warning lights are flashing 'pressure too low' - the dial suggests its fine. I should have called the plumber to come back, but I took a punt that it would magically sort itself out whilst I was at work. It hasn't. I guess I should get someone else out, but I'm going to wait to get the same plumber out and see if he didn't put everything back together correctly or something along those lines.

I would like someone else to sort this out for me :(

Oh, and he told me that my over-the-bath shower shouldn't be used as a shower as the bathroom hasn't been sealed up properly. Good job I won't be using it this week then (guess I'll be showering at the gym).

    And it's only Monday :(

admired the daffs (thinking to self, lovely, she's picked some lovely flowers from the garden!) then scrolled down...:rotfl:

I don't think I'd actually pick flowers from the garden. I was thinking about that over the weekend, and started feeling guilty about all the flowers that get cut right in their prime so that we can put them in a vase inside our houses.

    I think I need a holiday

    Oh Nikkster. :(

Hope the weather stays warm for you so you don't need heating. Glad you have the option of showering at the gym. I guess you'll be getting lots of exercise this week, then!

Have a dodgy hug to cheer you up. :grouphug:

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Look what you have done with this place! Certainly looking good.
I don't visit much, have been in a grumpy, anti-social mood recently but this new place has put a bit of a smile on my face.
Guess my wellies will have to be off at the door, coat hung up and language monitored when visiting.

Can't quite decide on the chandelier issue - did once go to a bad taste birthday party where the birthday 'girl' was given an ornate purple and silver chandelier which every body laughed at for it hideousness. I rather liked it so I may not have good enough taste for my opinion to be taken into consideration. :)

Hope your week gets better Nikkster. It's only Monday so lots of time for improvement.

    Thanks Lydia.

I think I've just worked out what the main problem (with me) is today - something that requires medication with chocolate. I don't have any in the house at the moment, so I'll experiment and see if a beer has the same effect. Or take a walk to the corner shop.

I am fairly p!ssed off with the boiler though. I should have called the plumber yesterday when it started working again and told him not to bother coming round!

I feel better for ranting, anyway :)
