It's all very frustrating isn't it? I sell a lot on Amazon and people very rarely leave feedback (poss. because the site is not that user friendly for beginners). So, I always email the buyer letting them know when I'll be sending the parcel and asking them to let me know when it arrives. I ask this because there is nothing worse than a buyer telling you there's something wrong 3 weeks later when you've misplaced all the receipts. How many people let me know? 20% perhaps. How difficult is it to just hit that 'reply' button and put "It's arrived - thanks". Grrrrrrrr!

Perhaps ebay should set out rules for who should leave feedback first and then everyone would know where they stand.

You dont get paid for giving feedback, as long as you maintain 98% + whats the problem?
    Its just an ego thing

You may not get paid, but so what? The feedback "option" is there for good reason and is an important part of ebaying. It a courtesy thing providing useful feedback which many ebayers rely on ... it's what it's all about surely.

I always leave feedback as soon as i receive my goods, i've never had a problem with that, but it does annoy me when i'm trying to get my good name slightly higher in the ranks that the sellers dont bother to leave it in return. This hasnt happened much but i did buy an item last week and noticed the guy has 117 pos feedback but has only left 5 feedback in return. I mailed him saying i'd received my goods but was hesitant to leave him feedback as he wasnt good at returning it, however i would happily leave it if he left me some first. I dont think its fair that someone should get their feedback upped when they cant be bothered to do the same in return. :naughty:

If I sell something and get paid, I leave feedback straight away.
This is because I know the product is exactly as I described it and is also well packed.
If I dont get feedback myself....Tuff

I sent an email to ebay asking if they could make it compulsary to leave feedback.
They said it is the seller/buyer discretion and would not force therecustomers to do that.

Are you over selling your item in the auction description so when your buyer receives it, its not quite what they expected?

It really annoys me when I pay immediately and I do not get feedback from the seller first. I feel that I am being blackmailed into leaving good feedback. So I refuse to do it. When I have received the item and am happy with it, I e-mail the person and tell them that I was about to leave good feedback and that I am happy with my purchase, but realised they they have not done so for me and ask why. If they still don't leave feedback then neither do I. As I have 100 % feedback it is their loss not mine and I also would not buy from them again.

Sorry but as a seller I totally disagree with this comment. Sellers should not be obliged to leave feedback first, assuming everything is fine. What if they leave good feedback based on prompt payment, only to find out that the buyer is nothing but a troublemaker/con artist or there was a problem?? The transaction is completed when the buyer receives the item, and if satisfied then leaves feedback. Being blackmailed is nonsense. It is your responsibility as a buyer to make confirmation that you are satisfied with your goods. Here's an example from my POV of how it looks if something goes wrong and I followed your theory:
Seller sells item to buyer, and buyer pays by PayPal
Seller goes "Yippee" as quick payment, and posts item.
Seller then leaves glowing feedback for fast payment etc
Buyer receives item, goes "Yippee!!" and "MUG!!" in the same breath as he does a PayPal reversal, getting not only the item, but his money back too.
Seller is screwed as has no way of warning others of the buyers scam, as he used up his feedback saying what a wonderful person the buyer was.

Buyers leaving feedback first actually helps us sellers. Because had the buyer left feedback first, and then done his PayPal reversal, the seller would have won the case when taken eBay or whoever, as the buyer had left a statement saying he was satisfied with the purchase. Even if there is a problem with the puchase, and the feedback will result in being a neg (after trying to solve the problem directly with the seller of course), it is still the responsibility of the buyer to make the first confirmation of the result of the transaction. The seller is providing a service, and cannot respond to that without a statement from the buyer.

Aside from that, and getting back on track, I'm one for doing my feedback in bulk (mostly during the weekends) But what annoys me the most (and it happened this week, after sellling some stuff) is when people start emailing me on a daily basis asking where their feedback is. I could not decide what was more annoying a) emailing the person back and having to justify my reasons for not getting round to it, or b) the fact they were making such a big deal over it when they already had a respectable total amount of feedback (I found that after 30 or so, I really stopped paying attention to how much feedback I was getting - Doesn't worry me if I'm left it or not - Its only a number.) I just find it so rude that people can be inpatient, and in consequence, although they may get a positive, the comment is not as glowing as it would have been had they just waited.

Whoops, didn't expect to write that much! (quietly steps off soap box and sneaks away hoping no one will notice...)

I did not know that a buyer could do a paypal reversal. This seems very odd to me.

Oh yes ..... Try a search on the "Ebay (& other auctions) Board" for the word "chargeback". :D
