Fed up of not getting feedback ...

Being a relative newbie on ebay, I'm getting really fed up of not receiving feedback when I put myself out for people. I'm learning fast that when people pay by PayPal, they want their items posting the same day ... I've always obliged and sent stuff well packaged and followed up with a friendly email to the buyer telling them when sent and thanking them for purchasing. I've also lost out on postage when sending student revision packs, etc. as I'm loathe to charge them for the postage.

Up to know I've left immediate (good) feedback when paid, but am now wondering if I ought to leave this until I get it myself. Is it usual practise to send an email to the buyer asking if they've received their item/s as I've heard nothing from them and asking them for feedback, or should I just leave it?

As feedback is so important with ebay transactions (especially when you're just starting out), I really feel I ought to do something.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts here ... thanks.

    Hi Mimijane.
I'm saddened to hear of your experiences because I have always had feedbck (although it may be slow sometimes). It is certainly in order to email your buyerssellers and remind them they have not left their feedback. Also eBay will send a reminder too. However, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink!

Hi, thanks for the reply ... perhaps I've just been unluckyicon9.gif Do ebay "automatically" send a feedback reminder, or do you have to request them to do it?

Never remind people to leave feedback, you might not get what you like.

Last month on the alt ebay group someone highlighted several cases of neutral feedback which stated 'here is the feedback you asked for' or 'seller/buyer asks for feedback-neutral'.

Users will leave feedback if they want to leave feedback and not otherwise.

If you are getting less than a say 90% feedback return then try and find out why, look at other sellers selling similair items and see what their feedback ratio to sale is and if theirs is better work out what they are doing differently.

The only time I don't leave feedback as either a buyer or seller is where I have some niggle with the transaction but don't feel it warrants a neut or a neg, in those cases no feedback is feedback in itself.

Also, some users will never leave feedback, whatever you do, they just don't value the system enough.

I've never had a feedback reminder generated from ebay either as a buyer or seller so am not sure whether this is an automatic thing or whether ebay do it randomnly. I've never even seen one, has anyone else ever got one of these?

If people don't leave feedback then neither does hubby. And we've never had an reminder from e-bay to leave feedback.....either as a seller or buyer.

So, just to clarify ... when selling, does your husband not leave feedback when he's paid, but wait until he gets it when the seller receives the item (if he gets it of course!)?

Can't help thinking that feedback (in whatever form) should be made compulsary in some way or that, at the very least, people should be able to find out if the person they're buying from/selling to tends not to leave it so they're warned.

In brief, As a seller, I wait for the buyer to leave feedback first, as I see it as confirmation that goods have been received, inspected, accepted, and all is well with the world..... As a buyer, I leave feedback first, as confirmation that goods have been received, inspected, accepted, and all is well with the world.

A seller leaving feedback upon receipt of payment is simply rating the buyer on their ability to pay quickly. Should the buyer then turn out to be a real rrrse, and try all sorts of carp, claiming this n claiming that n sending abusive email..... Then the ability to "rate them as a buyer" has been lost. :)

    All IMHO :D

MimiJane. As a seller my hubby used to leave feedback as soon as a buyer had paid but most of the time was getting no f/b left for him when transaction was complete. Now when he sells he always sends the buyer a note to say .....item will be posted on ??? and due to e-bayers not leaving feedback I only leave f/b when its left for me,any problems please do not hesitate to contact me.Alot of buyers want good f/b so they mail him to say .....item received I am completely happy and have left you f/b.Like Tojo Ralph said...if you leave f/b as soon as you get payment you are only rating their ability to pay promptly.

Got to agree with Tojo on this one. Iused to leave feedback on dispatch...not a good idea.

But the main thing is I have feedback of around 1,000 if all feedback had been left it would have been around 2,000.

Once you get over 100+ (recent) feedbacks it doesn't really matter.

I enclose with my package a note on Paypal receipt asking people to leave feedback when they are 100% satisfied with the item to show me that their purchase is complete and that I will reciprocate.

As a buyer I am a little slow to leave it at times. Bought a DVD which I haven't had time to watch and loathe to leave feedback in case it is not working.
