Got to agree with Tojo on this one. Iused to leave feedback on dispatch...not a good idea.

But the main thing is I have feedback of around 1,000 if all feedback had been left it would have been around 2,000.

Once you get over 100+ (recent) feedbacks it doesn't really matter.

    Good points.

I too would rather have glowing feedback willingly given, than grudgingly given feedback. ;) Thus I would never send reminders.

It really annoys me when I pay immediately and I do not get feedback from the seller first. I feel that I am being blackmailed into leaving good feedback. So I refuse to do it. When I have received the item and am happy with it, I e-mail the person and tell them that I was about to leave good feedback and that I am happy with my purchase, but realised they they have not done so for me and ask why. If they still don't leave feedback then neither do I. As I have 100 % feedback it is their loss not mine and I also would not buy from them again.
  • Hmm

This all seems to be about mind games rather than giving honest feedback for a good transaction.

I have been mostly selling recently and I have tended to wait to leave feedback until I am sure that the person has received the product - either by them leaving me feedback or by them emailing me to let me know.

Occassionally I leave feedback before I get it just to get it done I suppose, and maybe in a way it encourages them to do the same. I wouldnt like to think that made people feel blackmailed into feedback.

The fact is that the whole process of ebay includes leaving feedback to give status on the site. If we all get huffy and dont give it then no one will have it, people wont buy from those with little feedback and the whole system will fall apart. Not a good idea.

I think it is fairly easy to guage from the payment and any subsequent correspondance whether or not someone is going to be an !!!!!! and as such I leave feedback once I have completed my end of the transaction. I put on my packing slip that I am willing to sort out any problems if they contact me which hopefully people would do and if no problems then I expect feedback.

I have never chased feedback up because I have never had to.

Its not a question of blackmail; I try and fall over backwards to sort out buyers problems. Many feel the first port of call is the negative feedback button, instead of contacting and explaining that there is a problem. I have received justified negatives in the past but the vast majority are gripes that could easily be sorted out if people would just CONTACT ME!! I hovered at around the 98% rating for a while and decided that was the time to stop leaving feedback first.

I now don't really care if people leave me feedback or not it used to give me sleepless nights but at the end of the day it is voluntary. I believe in a code of honour and that my word is my bond and I have found too many people that have no honour. Item hasn't arrived...doesn't fit (size stated clearly), claims that item is fake etc etc... If I am in the wrong I will either send two as replacement or replace and give a partial refund.

On a slightly lighter note I was caught out recently by a buyer who obviously had no intention of paying but left glowing feeback, stupidly I left a +ve for him in one of my bulk feedback days....doh! All calls for the money have fallen on deaf ears he received his NPB strike yesterday but still has his 100% ....I am soooo cross with myself!!!

I've done an experiment, and I have found that as a seller if you don't leave feedback first then you get feedback quicker!

I don't leave feedback straight away as feedback is all about the whole transaction. if someone buys something and then is awkward when they receive it saying it isn't right or whatever when it is, it still leaves the transaction open! only when I know both parties are happy do I leave it.

I had a very irritating email the other day asking for feedback followed by another 8 saying the same thing! I don't think I will bother or will neg as I sent an email saying the ornament had a chip in and they seemed to ignore that!

I've noticed that buyers have been really, really slow to leave feedback lately. I've been fortunate that my buyers usually leave feedback very quickly. But for the last couple of months about a third of my buyers have left (positive) feedback a few weeks after they received the parcel.

A seller leaving feedback upon receipt of payment is simply rating the buyer on their ability to pay quickly. Should the buyer then turn out to be a real rrrse, and try all sorts of carp, claiming this n claiming that n sending abusive email..... Then the ability to "rate them as a buyer" has been lost. :)

    All IMHO :D

Yep, this is exactly how the feedback system works for me.

Simply put, as a seller only leave feedback in reponse to feedback you've already received.

I also find it frustrating. As a seller, I try to give positive feed back as soon as payment received, likewise when I buy, after receiving and inspecting the goods I leave positive feedback. I have just bought a cheap ring and heard NOTHING from the seller, despite eight emails chasing delivery after prompt payment. After Ebay intervened after I reported the item not received, she sent me a stroppy em saying she has twins (so what!) and that I was driving her mad asking about the goods, and only then she sent the item. How was I to know that the ring was ever going to be sent? When I received it, it was OK and I left positive feedback, but she hasent done the same for me. With some sellers/buyers you just can't win can you??
