80's fancy Dress ideas?

Yes I might have had a pair of neon ankle socks but more likely pastel to match whatever top I had on. I would wear things like black/red or black/blue checked shirt with a thin black tie, cropped (as in rolled up) loose trousers, brogue type shoes, spikey hair but not coloured as folks would never have allowed any of that malarkey.... or drop waisted dresses or pencil skirt and belted baggy blouse, sling backs and plenty of colourful make up.

Lads would have on army type long coats, leather trousers (or fake ones!), baggy shirts and lots and lots of hair product. :-) Oh and there were loads of 'flat tops' in my area doing the 50's James Dean look. So wanted to go out with a flat top (any flat top, not fussy) but never did. Those were the days, ha ha.

Oh yep, you've reminded me, one of my favourite shirts was a grey one with silver collar tips, that I used to wear with a bootlace tie, black trousers, wide belt and Dr Martin shoes. Or another outfit I christened 'Hitler youth' for some reason (I name a lot of my ensembles) which was a high necked white long sleeved sweatshirt, long black skirt again, wide belt and red braces worn back to front so it was like a Y shape. I used to wear a lot of 1950s style dresses too.

There was a lot of diversity of fashion, just the clich! seems to be the neon stuff which I would have said was more 90s rave.

I could give you a laugh and post some pics!

Course :D More my sister's thing than mine.

Late '80s, I dressed a bit like 'Karen from Brookside'. Lots of long straight stretchy black/pinstripe skirts, boots, long loose jacket with sleeves rolled up (or a stretchy one that matched the skirt), tight sleeveless turtle/roll neck top in a bright colour (remember a turquoise one), lots of hats... I remember my first day at college in '87 and what I wore lol (pretty much the above minus the hat!). Worshipped Molly Ringwald.

Yes! If you can get one of those Frankie Says Relax t-shirts you're already half-way there. Then leggings and some heels or pixie boots.

PS don't forget the 80s 'perm', if you want to go the whole hog :rotfl:

espadrilles and suit jackets with crew neck t-shirts alla Miami vice- I would suggest watching 'the wedding singer' by adam sandler captures the 80s perfectly especially the flock of seagulls fan.

blimey when we went to a 80s do- we had various large worded t-shirts relax, wake me up, or chose life. high pony tails with flou scrunchies, leg warmers rara skirts superb!!

I hate a lot of the 80s stuff in fancy dress shops/websites. It's just not what it was like at all!

Ditto for the 70s! I was a teenager in the 70s and went to a 70s-themed fancy dress party in what we *really* wore in the 70s only to find everyone else in the funky 60s mini dresses young people *think* we wore :o

Watching reruns of Top of the Pops are great for getting an idea of the real horror of the 70s  :D

I'd love an Abigail's Party, that'd be great fun - nice chiffon maxi dress. Demis Roussos anyone??
