Have a look on the google play store for an app. called GalaxSim Unlock.
Not used it myself - but might be worth a try.
It's a free download - you just pay by in-app purchase for the unlocking.
Seems to have decent feedback - all the negatives seem to come from people whose devices can't be unlocked.

I don't trust a download that can't even provide a cost "up front"

A wise decision, the Android App Store has very little control over what is in an app (and could well have malicious code included), I would also suggest going to the N7000 section of XDA Developers, if an app does work there is a good chance it's been tested as working or fake.

Probably because they didn't read the description that says the app needs root access to work.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

Thanks - I have emailed XDA to ask them to confirm that the code provided '0' could never work .....

You might want to read through some posts there, I had a spare 5 minutes for a very quick browse.

I found this thread which leads to this thread with some unlocking info/advice.

XDA Developers is a forum/hobbist site, while they probably will confirm that 0 is an invalid code, TM are unlikly to accept that as any form of proof.

TM say Samsung have supplied the code, even through its not right, so short of getting TM to try again theres not a lot that you can do short of getting it unlocked by an independant as D123 has suggested.

They would have needed the IMEI number for the unlock code. Its a pretty big number. Just thinking that it would be easy to get this wrong somewhere so perhaps thats why Samsung gave a '0'. You could try again and make sure that EE have the right number.

I gave EE the IMEI number as part of the application for the unlocking code

(Final ?) Response from EE :
"Thank you for your further email dated 18 March 2014, received into the EE Executive Office.
Please be advised that this matter has been addressed in my last emails dated 17 and 18 March 2014.
Please be advised that the below should be considered my full and final response with regard to this matter.
I reiterate that section 3.11 of the Terms and Conditions of your agreement state that any equipment that We provide to You will be locked to our network.
It may not be possible to unlock such equipment so that it can be used on the network of another mobile provider.
If the equipment can be unlocked, we may unlock it for You at our absolute discretion and we may charge You for this service.
As such I confirm that there is no Legal or Contractual obligation for EE to unlock your phone.
EE as a business has no facility to unlock you mobile phone, as the phone is locked by the manufacturer.
Please be advised that the unlocking code of '0' has been provided by Samsung directly and as such should it not work there is no further assistance that we can offer.
As we have been unable to facilitate the unlocking of your phone the administration fee of £20.42 has been reimbursed and you will be required to seek further assistance unlocking your phone externally from EE.
The EE Executive Office is the final point of escalation within EE with regard to customer complaints and as such should you be unhappy with the resolution I have offered, you will be required to seek further assistance externally at your own discretion."

Well to be fair, they didn't, the phone was locked by Samsung.

They are correct in that there is no legal obligation to unlock.
