I agree. I write as someone who did bear this in mind when putting together my SOA, & it's just as well. When I had major surgery a couple of months ago & was told I'd be on medications for several months, maybe for life, I suddenly had to find almost £100 to pay for a year's pre-paid prescription card, or face paying about £34pm for my medication (5 different items). I was off work sick at the time, so I was able to use some of the money I'd have spent on fares for it. But had I been going to work & not allowed for unforeseen expenses, I wouldn't have been able to pay that money, which was a necessary expense rather than something I could manage without.Toots,
Bat has already queried your approch here and I think you've seen why I/we encourage people to be realistic in preparing budgets.. It's not because we're encouraging people to cheat, far from it, it's trying to ensure people are realistic. I've been preparing forecasts and budgets for far too long now as part of my various business / career choices and human beings always underestimate expenditure.
That's not a problem if the head gasket goes on your car and you're looking at a £750 repair bill; pay for it on a card. People facing bankruptcy and living on a fixed budget with no access to credit don't have that luxury.
You have to accrue for the possibility of future a expense; if that expense doesn't materialise then for certain another one will.
