Great offer on Chevrolet Trax, what's the catch?

We have been offered a great deal on the Chevrolet Trax.
Brand new 1.7 Diesel AWD for £17,500k
The book price is £20.500
Test drove the car and it's pretty good I must say. All the gadgets we need. And pretty good MPG. Even got the All Wheel Drive should we ever get stuck in the valleys. Just couldn't fault it.
The dealer says Chevrolet are pulling out UK market, but parts and service guaranteed.
We want a big car and this fits the bill.
Equivalent sized cars like Quashqai is £26,000 and the Hyundi £23,000
Apart from the pulling out the UK market, are there any other catches do you think?

Before someone comes in with the "don't buy Chevrolet because you won't be able to get parts for it", I'll just mention the following.
Chevrolet Trax = Vauxhall Mokka. Same factory, same drivetrain, same electrics.
So no problems on that score.
Neighbour has one of these and it seems like a decent package to me. Pretty well screwed together -- and I never thought I'd say that of a GM product!
This car might be cheaper from motordepot.co.uk -- may be worth having a look as they're selling these from £12500 on there (petrol engined I suspect), so may be able to save you some more cash on your chosen model.0 -
Before committing yourself to that hulk (OK, I know everyones tastes are different) have you driven a Skoda Yeti? As well as being better in most departments, it doesn't have that claustrophobic rear compartment with the car-sick inducing high and small windows.0

I'm not convinced you're comparing apples with apples.
The Trax/Mokka uses GM's Korean-developed Gamma II platform, replacement for the old Corsa platform, whilst the current Corsa shares a Fiat joint-venture platform. So that's a market segment smaller than the Qashqai (which uses a Japanese-developed platform shared with the X-Trail and Renault Megane). In addition to the "value" platform, the Trax is a "value"-brand version of a car that hasn't sold at all well, whilst the Qashqai is a brand-spankin (launched November) replacement for the market leader.
If the Trax does it for you, great. But don't build it up by comparing to such widely different vehicles. If you want to compare it with a Nissan soft-roader, then the Juke is a more direct rival.0 -
No catches - they are a budget brand so are cheaperThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The Chevrolet brand came to the UK market as a rebadge of Daewoo, a little while after they went under and GM bought the remains.0 -
The drivetrain and electrical maybe the same. But what about body and trim items?
Will you be happy waiting several months for a body panel or trim item?
They are cheap. Checkout the roadtests. Someone commented on the noise and said it appeared like they forgot to fit any sound deadening material.
I think someone else on here test drove one then a Nissan Juke and said the juke was so much better.
So £20k may not sound like a cheap budget car. But its build quality says different.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Brand new 1.5 juke Diesel engine I got for £16.5k on the just below top spec. Nissan parts aren't hard to get either and there are plenty of dealerships around. They have a AWD model too.An opinion is just that..... An opinion0

By your own admission they don't retail at £20k!!!!!!!majorwally wrote: »I never though of Chevrolet as a "budget brand"
£20k retail doesn't sound budget to me.
I think budget, I think Dacia etcThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I can't remember the last time I had to replace a body panel, and trim items would be found by scouring the scrapyards on ebay, once the car's actually reached the age where it might need them.0
