Say that no photos to be put on facebook of the event until after you have approved? (then you can vet any out that show the kids and privately explain why if needed)

(and to be doubly sure, make sure they are only in group shots done in private by the photographer, not in the main ones)

You can ask people not to take photos - but realistically it is out of your control, nor can you hope to stop people posting on Facebook or anywhere else.

If keeping the children out of photos is that important, the mother should not be bringing them to a public event where hundreds of photos are going to be taken.

I'd agree with this. I'm not that active on Facebook but I'm sure that there must be a way to OK pictures of yourself before they're posted.

I've been to weddings where they've asked for no photos by putting something in the order of service like 'Please don't take photos during the ceremony/first dance/cake cutting, we want to see your faces not your phones!' but obviously that doesn't exclude pictures during the reception. Unless you have a blanket ban on non-official pictures full stop, but I can imagine more people would be annoyed about that...

Also, its fairly common for brides to want to restrict photos of themselves being posted publicly - often you see some bad angle phone camera snap of the bride, not looking her best, on FB within an hour of the ceremony, whereas its much more polite to wait for the bride and groom to decide what photos they want people to see of them - so everyone who doesn't attend sees the best picture as their first shot of the happy couple.

Of course people can take whatever pics they want, for their own album, but just not publicly post them (which seems reasonable)
  • Just a suggestion (possibly a really bad one, I don't know your OH) but if you aren't super bothered, and don't fancy planning it - and they are? Why not get them to plan it?

Ok long story short, reception venue is no longer on the menu so to speak so the hunt is on again.... thanks for comments need to think about this photo thing.

I'm taking a loan out of 2,500 and I think we can raise at least 2k by next year so wedding budget will be £4,500 ish. (The loan is family related so all good)

You can get married at 7pm! I think evening weddings are really nice and a little bit different
