I do agree that sometimes having no proper floor covering can cause problems especially if you have very young children.

    So, some options:

    1. Freecycle
    2. Ask council if they have any help available.
    3. Ask friends/family if they have anything suitable.
    4. Ask CAB for a list of charities that may help
    5. If eligible apply for a Budgeting Loan

  • I was shocked to learn that they also fail to provide 80 inch flat screen HD 3D TVs with surround sound and an X-Box in each bedroom as standard. Surely this is a breach of the Human Rights Act?

Is this really necessary? It was a simple request, no need for sarcasm.

Nice to know these attitudes still exist among the staff administering claims.

Not having carpets does not make a house unfit to live in.

Although if it has Gripper Rods still in place, it makes it a bit dangerous for toddlers. (Given that I couldn't afford carpet, I had to go around with hammer and chisel and remove them for every room, when I bought my last house)

Housing Associations do not usually supply carpets and if any are left when a tenant moves out they come round and rip them out.

HA are supposed to leave flooring in if they are in a suitable condition...this single mum we have to been helping saw her house had them when she viewed but during the viewing they found they where infested with fleas and smelt very strongly of dog pee...

When I moved out of a flat, they left the carpets down. Found out when I went to collect post. Mind you, it was the cheapest carpet!

Since we took our carpets up upstairs (haven't had them downstairs for years) and decided to expose the original floorboards, I realised would never again have a fitted carpet. All the dust that can be whisked away with a broom on the floorboards would just sink into the carpet and I don't think any amount of hoovering could get it all out. You can't see it for a start. And I don't even want to start thinking about what might be living in it.......

Not with a Sebo vacuum cleaner - if it ain't screwed down, it sucks it up lol

    Even rugs are at risk........

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • My newly acquired GTech Air Ram is the same....it tried to suck one of my rugs up this morning. Good job I was standing on it.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • HA'a wont provide a carpet as it then become a part of their fixtures and fittings obligations in their tenancy contracts, this then leads to a tenant saying "the carpet that was fitted is now dirty I want a replacement and under the tenancy it then becomes their obligation to do so costing huge amounts of money when they have thousands of properties on their portfolio, so when houses are let through council or HA, they rip them out because even if a tenant leaves them there for next, it becomes their assumed responsibility and their liable for it when a another tenant moves in.

so no you wont get a carpet.

Not all of them remove flooring...
The young girl we have been helping was told the carpets were staying, until the flea and pee problem was found..
this is what i found on the one we have had dealings with the last few days..

.Below is what i found on their website

'.We don't provide any floor coverings but we'll leave any left by the previous tenant if they're in good condition - like laminate or carpets. It's then your responsibility to maintain them.'
