    Hi,

eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection cases for item not as described or item not received will count as a defect.

    Thanks,

Just to highlight, it would seem the new rules will be retrospectively applied.

Those on a 3 month assessment will take 1 May as their 'start' date. Those on a 12 month should work from August 2013.

I never actually found out what determines whether you are on 3 or 12 month assessments...

Ok, so everything has to go Hermes tracked or Royal Mail special delivery. Not sure how to resolve not as described as it will always be the buyer's word against the seller's.

  • In Dec we had 4 INR cases opened from international buyers where eBay told then to expect delivery before Christmas despite purchasing after the last posting date (all closed with happy buyers).

And we got 4 INRs along the lines of:

dis ain't turned, wot u gonna do bout it

    to which we replied:

"Please confirm your address so we can contact your local Royal Mail depot and check with the postman on the round to see where it was delivered to"

Funnily enough all 4 "found" their parcel straight away, one of which had just been delivered, at 8pm at night...

The new system isn't too bad in principle, it's eBay's inability to get other aspects of the site working (ETAs mainly with regards to INRs and enforcing the fact that "buyer remorse" is not covered by SNAD cases) and tackling buyer fraud which is rampant on eBay.

Not to mention buyers who haven't paid can open INR claims, as can those with incorrect addresses and as can those who paid by eCheque but got an ETA of 7 days before the payment actually clears.

Even that doesn't help as eBay estimates are appalling (sorry this is my soap box issue) . My second class items sold today after 5pm with a next day despatch show an estimate of Thursday!

    This has also been posted by the eBay rep in response to the question whether cases are opened automatically if a buyer merely goes through the system to query something and a case is automatically opened;

    Hi,

If a buyer contacts you after the estimated delivery date of the item to query why they have not received their item this will count as a defect.

    Thanks,
    Alan

Penalising sellers for INR cases? I have just shipped 2 items to Ukraine in the last day or 2, if they don't arrive on time am I therefore a bad seller?
I get INR cases raised all the time, mostly they end with the buyer apologising when it finally arrives somewhat later than expected.
Sellers cant ship earlier than immediately.

Yep , any case opened will be considered a defect.

I have had more INR cases in the past couple of months than in the past 10 years on eBay and think that these new rules will make things worse as buyers will know that sellers are in fear of cases being opened.

It says here cases resolved in sellers favour will not count as a defect:

    Defect
    • Detailed seller ratings of 1, 2 or 3 for item as described**
    • Returns for item not as described
    • eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection cases for item not as described*

    • Detailed seller rating of 1 for dispatch time
    • eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection cases for item not received*

    • Negative Feedback
    • Neutral Feedback**

    • Transactions cancelled by you due to stock out or item sold to another buyer

    * If an eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection case opened for an item not as described or not received is resolved in your favour, this won’t count as a defect.

Have only been trying to sell on ebay to help clear out after years of buying too many clothes. Have gradually been taking lots to the charity shop recently as it has just become too much hassle. Think I will now only sell occasionally when I make expensive shopping errors like the Ugg boots I bought at Christmas. The rest like jeans that don't fit can benefit the local hospice shop. Ebay and Paypal make more money than me and it is using up all my spare time.

Life is too short for this.
