I met my hubby on a 3 day first aid course, I was instantly attracted to him but didn't have the guts to do anything about it. Then by chance we bumped into each other on a night out a months later. We arranged a date for 2 weeks time. He stayed at my house the night of our first date and never went home (yes what a floozie), we were engaed a month later and were married on exactly our 6 month anniversary. We had a beautiful honeymoon in the caribbean and I returned home pregnant! Our dd will be 2 in 3wks time and our 3rd wedding anniversary is in October.
We both had debts when we met but this has never been a problem.
Go for it if it feels right, I didnt believe it until it happened to me but it's true, you really do know when you have met the one.
I wish you all the love, luck and happiness that your future may bring. There are not enough romantics in the world, live for today and whatever makes you happy.Fight for clean hospitals, C-DIFF takes lives

I think that sometimes you just know that a certain person is right for you. My parents got engaged after two weeks and will celebrate their golden wedding next year. My mum always says that the first time she saw my father he was waiting at a bus stop, and she just knew he was the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with. It took her three weeks to contrive a meeting but after that things moved very rapidly. I knew my husband for six weeks before he popped the question, and we will have been married 20 years this year. However I do know plenty of people who have got engaged after a few months and it has all gone wrong, in fact I know one girl who got engaged to a chap after going out for three months, he moved in the next day and then she discovered some drugs in one of his coat pockets. The fact that your girlfriend has been so honest with you about her debt is a good sign, perhaps you should suggest to her that you both work really hard, and perhaps take on a part time job each in the evenings, clear as much debt as you can by Christmas and then get engaged New Years Eve?
Best of luck whatever you decide.0 -
Thanks for all the responses so far guys.On a slight tangent, do you feel it is important to have a ring when you actually propose?0

depends if she's the kind of girl who would want to pick her own - and if you are 100% certain on style and size etc. I would buy a £5 sparkly one to ask her with and then enjoy a day out together shopping and choosing a proper one.0 -
I would say the first 9 months of a relationship are the 'honeymoon' stage (new love - sigh), the next 6 months are the settling in period, where you often have the whole power conflict thing... I think if you're still together after 2 years and utterly content, then the relationship will work. Getting married before this is rather risky. I'm not saying it WON'T work if you get married now, but if you're meant to be together in 2 years time, then what's the rush??
if you're that desparate to get engaged, then maybe suggest a LONG engagement period of 2 years.
as for the ring, it IS nice to have a ring.... although something memorable would do instead like a hulahoop, or one of those jelly rings!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Marriage is a mechanism for giving away your house and pension fund. Marry in haste if you must, but there is a 50/50 chance of repenting at leisure. Your entire assets and potential future lifetime earnings are at stake, so be careful.0 -
