OP , what set up do your neighbours have ? (assuming they arent 10 miles away !)Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

But the house is newish - less than 10yrs old. There should have been lines installed when the place was built, surely? (or not!)
What have the neighbours done?0 -
What did VM quote?0

Good question, troops!
Oddly, the neighbours' (we live in a semi) wifi shows up on our phones, and when I spoke to them they said they just got Virgin in a few months ago and didn't have a problem- no idea how this could be...
As I said in my OP, Virgin said exactly the same thing as BT- I'm not sure how both of these set of facts can be true!
We're going to get a 3G hotspot router thing, and we only need the phoneline for t'internet anyway so it's not a huge deal, but it's obviously not ideal for when we come to sell the property.0 -

Is this something that could be shared with the neighbours? Might be worth knocking on a couple of doors and checking what your neighbours do.
Ignore, beat me to it!0 -

Are BT and Virgin looking in the right country? Call them back and tell them neighbours are connected so their map/diagram is not accurate and see what they have to say then.0 -
if the neighbours are connected, it should be a simple operation for either BT or VM to connect up your property. There must be more to this than meets the eye - where have BT got this figure of 56 metres for carrieageway ducting and 80m for cabling from?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

What did they says when you told them your neighbour takes service from them?0
