does nil by mouth include water?

My old girl dog Lucy is having her lump taken off in the morning, going under anaesthetic about 10am.

Vet said she's to have no food after midnight tonight, but didn't mention water.

Does anyone know if I have to refuse her water after midnight too?

I've always been told no food after 8-9pm and no water after midnight.

Thanks Fosterdog. That's going to be really tough on her as she always has a good drink of water first thing...but needs must.:(

The morning's when you'll be getting the water bowl rattling round the floor and the evil eye.
Hope it all goes well for you both.

Thanks elsien. It's a worry when they get old and need a full anaesthetic though, isn't it?

I feel sick tonight. How daft is that?

Always used to be no water overnight but for about the last 3 years my vet has said water up to 8am.

Sorry to give conflicting advice! Hope the op goes well x

Bailie's in for neutering in May and the vet told me no food after 8pm the night before but water is ok, I just have to pick it up off the floor first thing, on the morning of the op.

You're an anxious Mum & fully understandable. Wishing Lucy all the best for tomorrow. She'll be home before you know it. Take care.xx
