When I appealed a sanction on JSA during 2011 it took about six weeks. My then JSA claim was reinstated that at the same time hardship payments were awarded.

I hope you're not in that position. You can't even apply for an crisis loan (it indeed they still exist) during the interim.

no thank god, it was just I was watched Ian D smith on the Sunday politics today and he made it sound like a hardship payment was paid on the same day the sanction was given which I thought was not the case, so I just wanted to checked...seems he was lieing/misleading on that show then!

    Didn't see that particular show.

I can be only but speak from experience. What you say IDS said is absolutely untrue.

the question put to him was that 70,000 people have wrongly been sanctioned so it was unfair for them to have had their benefits stopped, he then went on to say they would appeal which would take 7 days, the interviewer said but 7 days even is a long time without money, IDS then said but they would get a hardship payment in the meantime (in fact I think he said immediately or similar ...or words to that effect so he was basicly implying a hardship payment was paid straight away, no mention you had to apply for it and it could be refused.

Just watched the hardship payments segment of the IDS interview.

No hardship payment was offered to me immediately.

Unless this has being changed... Doubt that thought.

Unless a claimant can prove they fall in to a 'vulnerable' category, requiring a special diet for example, hardship payments cannot be applied for until two weeks after benefits are stopped.

As a rule of thumb a hardship application should be process with 2/3 working days but the entitlememt to hardship may not be from day one of the sanction. To claim hardship you should also have to provide evidnce such a bank statements to show payments are needed.
People are normally paid hardhip from the 15th day of a sanction at a 40% reduction. Only a small number are eligble form day one of a sanction.

What do they expect people to live on for those 2 weeks? There's a limit to the help from food banks.
