How to get a job after being in prison? Divine intervention?

I have a career gap and am always asked about it. If I just said I was unemployed they would ask for more details. I would expect them to assume it was something bad if I refused to elaborate and would rather be able to explain on my own terms than leave it to them to guess and make assumptions.
OP, have you tried applying for council jobs? A friend is a bin man and a lot of his colleagues have had prison sentences.0 -

sorry but what a load of rubbish, if an employer asks that and you were to say unemployed I don't believe they would follow that up with "yeah but what EXACTLY were you doing" they may say did you do any courses whilst unemployed, which you can either answer yes or no to but to say they would infer you were hiding something bad from those answers is silly.0 -
How about applying to work in the probabtion service or some sort of job with ex offenders?
As a starting point you might not find so much discrimination with employers who work in that field.
Everybody seems to think that this will be an easy route for an ex the offender back into employment and it wont be Im afraid. Theres massive cuts in this sector also the majority of the staff have not got criminal records, a few here and there have but not the majority by far. They dont practice what they preach. You could get some voluntary work with them along with 100s of other people and then fight for the one job thats going per year.
Thats the reality Im afraid.
Ask your probation officer how many people at their office have been to prison or got a serious criminal record.0 -
the point I was making is, a CV does not have to contain anything you don't want on there, it's up to you want you include and don't include, if being in prison was stopping you from getting a job but you were never directly asked "were you in prison" you would be daft to give that info freely.

And lets hope when the offer is made an offical application form dont come the way of the OP and they then have to decide keep up the lie or lose the job.
well he would be no worse off then but could be better off if this 2nd appliction form doesn't appearif the question was asked and he doesn't get the job because of it, then he would be no worse off, if he by the smallest chance gets asked to fill in a new application form then he hasn't lost anything...by we're scrapping the barrel here :rotfl:

I've been asked to elaborate every time and the times I haven't I have not got the job.
If I choose instead to explain my period of illness at least it is on my terms and I generally get more positive feedback- if you are honest it puts people on your side.
For the OP the gap being so recent and his having no recent work experience due to it makes the reason very relevant to potential new employers. At least take the opportunity to turn it into a positive "I was in prison but while I was there I did X course and learnt Y"0 -
This is off point though. OP you clearly have a good cv to get so many interviews. Please don't lose hope x0
