How to get a job after being in prison? Divine intervention?

yeah so the employer is going to thank him for telling the truth but still not hire him because he's been in prison!
If I was an exoffender then yep I would quite happily lie no problem whats so ever, but as said it's rarely asked so it's not a lie.
I'm guessing you are long term unemployed? Ever thought why that may be?0 -
I never understand this question as I have had at least 10 jobs and not once have I been asked have I been in prison on any of the application forms.
Every application form I've seen has a question about whether you've been convicted of a crime. But, all you've got to do is send a CV to get around that.
If asked flat out, you've got to tell the truth.
A question like 'what have you been doing for the last two years,' could be responded to by saying something like 'after realising that degree subject wasn't for me I took a short time out then did my hnc in electronics. Now I'm qualified I'm keen to get to work..'
Legally, you can't lie and not expect it to bite you eventually but you don't have to volunteer the fact you went to prison unless directly asked.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

OP please sign on.
I work for Virgin Trains. Its a well paid and interesting job. I know (because it was leaked) that two of my peers have criminal records and one went to prison. The company also has strong links with the princes trust and another young person was hired due to impressing on work experience.
Please don't give up hope but find an adviser who will be able to put you in contact with these schemes. They are out there.
And btw, the people I work with are hard working and respected once the fuss died down. More importantly its proof that the support is out there. Please don't give up hope. You are not unemployable. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!

nope working full time smart !!!!...my point is if they want to know if someone has been in prison then they should directing ask, then I would not lie, if they ask what have you been doing in the last 2 years I can choose how I answer that, I could say unemployed, I could also say doing GCSE if I did them in prison or mention some other course I may have done, no reason to say "I was in prison for beating up my wife to a pulp" or what ever it was, a CV or application does not have to provide every detail unless directly asked.0 -

I think I have made it very clear, if asked dirctly then yes you have to say, but as said you must be applying for different jobs to me as I have yet to be asked on any appliction form.0 -
You need to go back to college and learn a trade or something where you can go self employed. Otherwize it could take you ages to get a decent job in this climate with your record.0

How about applying to work in the probabtion service or some sort of job with ex offenders?
As a starting point you might not find so much discrimination with employers who work in that field.0 -
I think you will find with a large gap on a CV it's one of the first things they will ask.
the point I was making is, a CV does not have to contain anything you don't want on there, it's up to you want you include and don't include, if being in prison was stopping you from getting a job but you were never directly asked "were you in prison" you would be daft to give that info freely.
I have just heard too many exoffenders use this as an excuse, yes some jobs may ask that question but not all jobs so the statement that some use that because they were in prison they can not get a job is not correct, it maybe because they have a gap of a few years so that is what is putting off the employer or they are putting prison on their CV etc but to say someone can not get a job because they were in prison is over egging it just a bit.0
