How to get a job after being in prison? Divine intervention?

  • It seems that the OP knew that he had drugs but not the seriousness of what he had (thought he had weed, turned out to be something else more serious). He knew he was going to be in trouble, and natural instinct would be to run.

I never understand this question as I have had at least 10 jobs and not once have I been asked have I been in prison on any of the application forms.

for the op the application forms aren't the issue, its the question 'So, what have you been doing for the last two years?'

unemployed...it's not a lie, unless directly asked than it's not an issue.

I've heard a few exoffenders say they can not get a job because they have been in prison, I would love to know what jobs they are applying for that they get asked that question.

I applaud your efforts so far and please don't give up.

I can't offer any words of wisdom but could you be a self employed electrician with your electronics knowledge? I know there is a part P, whatever that is but could you possibly get free or subsidised access to a night school or college to do this? Or how about agency work?

A lie by omission is as bad as an outright lie.

    not it isn't.

even if it were then I would lie.

fact is some things are not allowed to be asked at interview, depending on the job then that may be one of them, if it was so important they know surely they should come right out and ask it, if they ask a general question as that, then they should expect a general answer.

You demonstrate a complete lack of integrity. I would far rather employ the OP, who is willing to admit that they made a mistake, than a liar.

You have had great success getting interviews without mentioning your prison time in the application, but they are not getting you jobs. I think you have little to lose by adding a carefully crafted covering letter mentioning it. All that can happen is you don't get the job.

yeah so the employer is going to thank him for telling the truth but still not hire him because he's been in prison!

If I was an exoffender then yep I would quite happily lie no problem whats so ever, but as said it's rarely asked so it's not a lie.
