I have received a claim from Sabre insurance about an incident I had with my car, I have never had an incident. I renewed my insurance with Halifax now they have cancelled my policy with no notice. help as not even my local police can help me where can I go. They also say that an uninsured driver was driving, never heard of him plus my car was not even in the area it was parked outside my home all day on that day, Halifax have reinsured me but I had to pay again for the whole year and it was only 3 weeks ago that I had already paid and now I have lost my no claims and have an accident in my new policy.I had to insure again as live out in the country and need a car. Is this a scam from insurers or what

You need to contact your insurance company at the time of this "claim" and find out what they are playing at.

Most likely it is "a computer glitch" or "admin error"

    Then you can act accordingly.
If your car was involved in an accident driven by an uninsured driver the Police would have interviewed you (if not charged you with permitting or something) and there would be a record of the interview somewhere, which you must surely be entitled to if it was with you.

Then you can sort out Halifax.

Your post does not clarify the situation.

Can you answer the following questions.

When did you take out the Halifax Policy?

What date was the alleged accident?

What reason did Halifax give for cancelling the policy and was this confirmed in writing giving you notice?

Was your car actually involved in this accident?

Do you know the alleged driver of "your" car during the accident?

Have you contacted the other Insurer to ask details about the accident?

How are your Insurers dealing with the accident eg are they disputing it? Have they sent out an investigator to your house to take a statement and taken a description of you and any covered drivers of your car so they can ask the other party for a description from their client of the driver of your vehicle?

Halifax policy was taken out on1st Feb, effective date was 5th Feb, the alleged incident was the 24th Jan, I received letter from Sabre on 3rd Feb and contacted Halifax that morning as soon as I got it.They told me they would leave a note on my file saying I was not involved in any incident. Never heard anymore until I got the cancellation letter on 26th Feb with no reason, I phoned them asked why the answer was as I said I had 3 no claims bonus ( which I have) but because of the incident on 24th I should not have any agggh. My car was and never has been in any incident. I have contacted Sabre 3 times trying to find out any info, 3rd time managed to get driver name and the area of the incident that's all, never heard of driver or the area. I phone Halifax they tell me to phone Sabre they tell me to phone Halifax, I am a ping pong ball. Nobody has been in contact with me about this. Its driving me crazy.

If there was an incident involving an uninsured driver the police would have been called and required to attend and the relevant statements would be on record. Why have you not taken this fact up with Sabre ?

Who were you insured with on 24 Jan?
This is before your policy with Halifax even commenced.

Can you answer the following questions.

When did you take out the Halifax Policy? 5/2/15

What date was the alleged accident? 24/01/14

What reason did Halifax give for cancelling the policy and was this confirmed in writing giving you notice? Not answered, I assume for either non disclosure of a previous claim or not reporting the accident promptly. It would depend whether Halifax were the previous Insurer

Was your car actually involved in this accident? No

Do you know the alleged driver of "your" car during the accident? No

Have you contacted the other Insurer to ask details about the accident? "I have contacted Sabre 3 times trying to find out any info, 3rd time managed to get driver name and the area of the incident that's all, never heard of driver or the area"

Not answered

Broken down so posters can understand the information
  • Who was your insurer at the time of the alleged incident?? Who are Sabre? Are they the 3rd party insurers trying to claim against you? You need to contact them and inform them that you were not in the area at the time, have never heard of the area, had no reason to be in the area, have never been in trouble with the police or interviewed. I would do this in writing, recorded delivery. Get their address and write to them, requesting that they drop any allegations and confirm this in writing within 10 days. Then forward this to Halifax to prove your no claims is still valid.

Have you explained to Halifax that this accident was nothing to do with you?

What kind of car do you drive and what year? Just wondering if your car is popular to be nicked and cloned . . .
Could HAVE. Should HAVE. Would HAVE. Not OF.
