One amazon reviewer wrote that it does come with full Microsoft office 2013: “you have to download it first and activate it with the licence code in the box. Excel, one note, powerpoint, word etc. all there.”0 -

I once spent several hours in Vannes waiting for my car to be repaired, and sneaked into an internet cafe to do a bit of blogging. All the PCs had ASERTY keyboards. I have never made as many stupid typos in my life, and writing the simplest thing took hours. Worth avoiding if you can

Thank you for that. I have just looked at Amazon France and Germany again and hidded in the description, both sites have different keyboard layouts, so going down that avenue is a no-no.
I went to PcWorld yesterday and ruled out the Asus t100 32 Gb, as there was only about 6 Gb left after Windows 8.1 and Office had taken their share.
I have decided to plump for the Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2, but have to weigh up whether it is worth getting the Pro 2 against the much cheaper Pro 1 which comes with a free keyboard but needs updating to 8.1. Only problem with the Pro 1 is that the best value is from PcWorld, whereas the Pro 2 I can get direct from Microsoft, John Lewis or Amazon.
Decisions, decisions.......0 -
Pro2 keeps the same (very good) screen basically. It changes to a much better CPU, resulting in better battery life rather than better performance (already ridiculously fast) and improves the kickstand, which is the lowest tech, but possibly most important, improvement.
I've got the Toshiba Encore 8 mentioned above in 32GB form. Not sure I would trust the website linked to or the price. It's not a primary device for me but is awesome. They've saved lots of money on materials though so I've got a few marks on the case and screen, and I'm careful. Get a case and screen protector. It's no competition to the Surface Pros but it's a great little device!0 -

The 'new' surface pro 2 wasw released about a month ago, has a slightly quicker CPU than before, (1.9ghz vs 1.6) so a bit quicker than the original surface pro 2, has a couple of extra features which probably won't apply, but will also have very slightly better battery life.
I'm using a surface pro now with the type keyboard, tablet cost £280ish from microsoft after quidco. If you are/know/have email address of a student the 64gb is under £400 which isn't too bad.
See if this deal comes back in stock, refurb, but a 128gb surface pro 2 with keyboard for £500 aint bad

I'm really interested in buying a Windows tablet with Word, but what I'd want to do mainly is read documents and make an occasional change, so I'd rather use the tablet in portrait, and use the on-screen keyboard if I needed to type something.
Is that possible, or do you have to use the tablet in landscape if you are using Word?0 -
jaydeeuk1 - how on earth did you get a pro for £280? Is that offer still on? Send me a link!
tyllwyd - yes the whole Office suite can work in landscape or portrait. The Toshiba Encore, which I have, comes with Office.0 -

Don't think so. The offer was a surface pro for £359 if you're a student (or in my, for employing a student
) plus there was a £25 windows store voucher. Quidco paid around £50 making it £309, however MS forgot to include the windows voucher, so everyone rang up and got £30 refunded, making it £280ish.
The current student offer is a 64gb pro with the touch keyboard for £399 (£50 quidco cashback making it £349). Not a bad price, could probably sell the touch cover for £30, and upgrade to the type 2 cover, which is !!!!!!! awesome. You just need to find someone with a uni/college email address.0
