Goods too high to reach.

Fellow shortie here, I was caught in Morrisons last Friday night, standing on the bottom shelf, with a "Variety" pack of cereals, trying to pull the last box of "Curiously Strawberry" from the back of the shelf. The manager, no less, told me not to put myself at risk and to ask his staff if I needed anything.
That's me told!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

Not in Tesco!0 -
I either ask a tall person or find a wooden spoon or fish slice to poke stuff with. This did lead to me almost decapitating a poor fellow shopper once a as a giant box of cereal took flight in the wrong direction. I worry about large freezer chests too as being short, if stocks are low, it wouldn't take much to fall right in

Thank you so much to all who responded to my thread.
I enjoyed both the serious and the amusing replies. Reading them has made a dreary day more enjoyable!0 -
Getting stuff out of low-stocked freezers is OK if some helpful person will hold onto your feet

I don't regard myself as short at 5'6" but I struggle to get things out of the trolley at the checkout if OH has gone in front to unpack it, and pulled the trolley with him leaving me to try and reach over the handlebar. Impossible.
This also works against me now DD is 5'8" as things I could put things out of her reach in the larder for [STRIKE]me to eat[/STRIKE] her own good, she can see them and reach them down while I need to get a chair
I do remember a long time ago my ex-OH (6'6") walking down the aisle in Sainsburys being followed by a lady shouting at him because he offered to help her reach something as she was climbing up (she was shorter than me by a good head!) so she hurled a lot of abuse at him for daring to imply she couldn't reach the top shelf. :rotfl:0 -
How rude of that woman to hurl abuse at someone trying to help!
I'm 4 foot 11 and very grateful when anyone will help me reach things in a supermarket. I have had the experience of toppling head first into a freezer and having to be rescued by a knight in shining armour, who did a manful job of not sniggering until I was out of sight.
The other problem I have is clothes shopping. Why do so many shops put their "petite" range on the top rails, WAY above the height of a normal "petite" user!0 -
