unlocked nokia - not working with different SIM.

I have unlocked my nokia 3410 from the tesco network & tried to use virgin & orange sim cards but it just states "invalid sim card".

I know the virgin sim card works as I use it in another phone.

Any ideas !!!

So its not unclocked...

After entering the unlock code it did display "phone restriction off".

I tried entering the code again & it displayed "phone was not restricted".

So yes it seems to be locked - despite what it says.

Very confusing

you need to enter codes 1 and 2 to fully unlock it

What are codes 1 & 2 ?

So even though my phone displays "phone not restricted" it still is locked ?

Or is it a ploy by Tescos to keep my phone hooked up to them.

I wouldn't mind - I just wanted to use an overseas sim card as I'll be in S.A for a few weeks & a local Sim works out much cheaper.

what is the msg when you put in a sim other than the tesco one?

It just states "SIM not valid" & when I enter the unlock code it states "phone was not restricted".

Hmmmm perhaps my phone is just too prehistoric for the SIM cards :-)

you still have a lock on then (your not trying a 3 sim are you?)
post your imei /model and network and ill do the correct code (if you havent used all your tries)

I think I need a "fools guide to mobile phone lingo" as I don't know what a 3 sim is :-(

A "3 sim" is just a sim for the "3" network, - these only work in 3G handsets and wouldn't be any use in your 3410.

The sim cards I tried were freebies - from orange & Virgin for PAYG

I also tried a sim which works from a PAYG phone (siemens AX72 from Virgin)

There's nothing with the Sim to indicate 3G - do they look any different ?

Also the original unlock codes I tried were from www.unlockitfree.com & it was the second one that appeared to work.
