Panasonic breadmakers

I have the Panasonic bread maker with the fruit, nut container and it's fabulous. I do lots of combinations: walnutbread, sundried tomatoes and rosemary, cheese and chives, apricots and chopped almonds......there's hundreds of combinations, so it really is worth the money.
The only thing I can't work out to do is to add sesame or poppy seeds?????? I'm not sure at what stage to open the lid to sprinkle them in, and I wondered if opening the lid would ruin the loaf?
Anyone know please?0 -
Opening the lid will not ruin the loaf at all
You can add seeds for the top of the loaf , just before it bakes
This happens at approx 45 mins before the loaf finishes.
I would add at approx 30 mins before the end as the loaf rises as it starts to bake
Hope this helps0 -
If its just a seeded loaf you would like, then you can add these at the start as seeds don't break up during the kneading process0

Whoops, just realised - when I say add oatmeal, I really mean substitute oatmeal for equivalent amount of flour.0

Well our breadmaker arrived yesterday but I was out all day and evening. I now need to have a read at the book and try a loaf. The tin smells quite 'chemically/new' so I'm going to take that out and give it a good wash in soapy water.
Many thanks all for the help and suggestions, feel free to keep them coming if you have more!0 -
Hope someone can help.
I bought a Panasonic Bread Maker a couple of weeks ago after reading reviews about it on this site.
I made my first loaf but it was awful. It didn't really rise in fact it seemed to have sunk rather than rise and there was flour which had not been mixed in all round the bottom of the loaf.
I tried again with the same results.
I bought a different make of flour and yeast as I felt this could be the problem.
Another loaf made and still the same.
I followed the trouble shooting suggestions in the book ie. adding more water. Then less and still my loafs were in edible.
I then began to think the machine was faulty so I bought another from a shop. The original was bought on Amazon and I didn't want to wait before I could send that one back and get another.
I've made another load of loads with this new one and the results are exactly the same.
So I now have two machines which I can't now take back as it seems they must be working correctly. I've made about twenty loafs and we haven't been able to eat any of them.
Any suggestions???????????0 -
I love my Panasonic and any problems have been my own fault.
Check your measurements. I started off using my existing set of measuring spoons and jug and found that there was quite a difference in size compared to those included with the Panasonic. When I started using the Panasonic spoons I had a 'senior moment' and thought that the included spoon was a teaspoon and a half teaspoon - realised in time and had to empty out the yeast or it would have been flowing round the kitchen.
Are you using the correct type of yeast? I use the Allinsons tins and noted that the green tin is for breadmaking machines and the other one (yellow I think) is for hand baking.
Can you tell us the recipe you are using?
Sorry if these questions are all obvious, just trying to narrow down what the problem could be.
One final thought - what do you mean by 'sunk rather than risen - sunk from what? You're not opening the machine while it's working are you?0 -
Is the yeast out of date? I use the same one as Be Happy by the sounds of it. The green tin. have you attached the paddle correctly? Are you using strong flour? Using the right programme? Using the right amounts of ingredients? You didn't use hot water, did you?
I bought the 2500 and used it for the first time yesterday. I have a lovely loaf of perfect, well risen, white bread. I just plonked all the ingredients in 12 hours before I wanted a finished loaf. Not sure why you don't have the same.0 -
Had mine since Apr 11 and only had about 3 failures total making 3-6 loaves every week so it must be something you are doing. Are you using the recipes from the Panasonic book, don't use others until you have mastered it. The ingredients not mixing sounds like not enough water - are you adding the ingredients in the order in the recipe ie water on top ? I find the dough slightly softer/wetter than hand baking dough.
Have recently had to change the tin bearings and blade because they were worn out !!0
