Hi,I bought a range cooker from homebase,in October, because I live on a scottish island,I had it delivered to a friend ,and picked it up from there.it has now went faulty, with the wok burner not lighting,it is still under guarantee.iv been told, the engineer doesn't come to my area, house, only options I,m been given,is to take back to mainland, and have an exchange or refund.i feel this is not right,as iv already paid on ferry to bring it over here, and had a gas engineer install it safely.I didn't know anything would go wrong with it.but I feel they should be replacing or fixing no matter where I live, have also been told they don't sell this cooker anymore.help.

You misrepresented your address by having it delivered to a friend, I think you will have to do as they ask.
What if you had lived on Ascension?
The only alternative will be to find the local man who can fix it/clean it.0 -

Eh?
Guarantee's aren't only based where it was delivered. Otherwise they wouldn't be valid when you move!
Sorry but the retailer has an obligation here IMO0 -
I would think living on an island you would make it standard to enquire what a retailers/manufacturers terms were in case of repairs etc on any large purchase.. OP why did you have it delivered to a friend...did they say they wouldn't deliver to your island?0

'Sorry, but we can't deliver to the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Orkney, Shetland and Scottish Islands, BFPO addresses or the Republic of Ireland.' so you tried to circumvent that by getting it delivered to a friend. They are probably quite happy to deal with it at the delivery address. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi,I didn't hide anything,I knew they didn't deliver to my island,so had it delivered to an address on mainland,Which everybody does and gets things delivered by local carrier.didn't expect it to stop working,a guarantee should be valid wherever it is.it was a bush range cooker.0

If under warranty then you are probably expected to return it at your own cost. A warranty is with the manufacturer.
If you are claiming under SOGA then they are probably within their rights to deal with it at or from the delivered address. So the way I see it is that you need to get it back to the delivered address and they will deal with it from thereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. If it's rangemaster I found them to have appalling customer service.0

So, for arguments sake, let's say OP bought this and then moved from the mainland to where they are now, the retailer has a right to deal with it at the delivery address, meaning OP would have to toddle off to the mainland, knock on the door of his old house and say "excuse me, can I just hang about here for a bit with this range?"
OP, it's probably worth looking at the warranty and finding out if there are terms in there that mean the warranty is void outside of the mainland.
It's probably also worth looking up your SOGA rights as you're within 6 months so it would be deemed as inherently faulty until proved otherwise, which would mean that Homebase are responsible for transportation costs.0
