This is not an ethical company, they have a man who hides in a box and slaps tickets on cars when the owners leave the site, whereas, by law, he is supposed to mitigate his losses by warning you that it is against the T & C. Do not feel guilty, it is they who are the bigger sinners.

thanks for all the info guys, this is all really helpful.

it's also interesting that they just give an email address to appeal to, no postal address (just a po box for the payment).

I think I'll certainly set up a brand new email address just for this!

I've also just twigged the absurdity of the timings:
    11.52am - first picture taken
    11.58am - ticket written

yes, i did walk off in the opposite direction of the Staples entrance at 11.52, but to write a ticket 6mins later?!

am i correct in thinking that this is now my course of action, as I have no evidence of Staples purchases: (ticket received Tue 4th March 2014)

EDIT - or should i jump straight to 9 now? is that what you meant above Coupon-mad?

    6. If it was a windscreen ticket, do not contact the PPC at this point, you must wait for the 'Notice to Keeper' (NtK) to arrive. This should be no sooner than 28 days after the incident and no later than 56 days after it. Theses dates are very important, and you must retain all tickets and letters you receive.

    8. Once you receive the NtK the process below will need to be followed.

    9. Soft appeal to the PPC (you'll understand this when you start reading the threads).

    10. Likely rejection, so in your soft appeal you ask that a POPLA code be given to you if your soft appeal is rejected.

    11. Lots more reading about POPLA Appeals (read the 'sticky' at the top of the forum index 'POPLA Decisions', especially the last couple of months' reports of victories - it will give you a good idea of which points win at POPLA).

    12. Draft POPLA Appeal and let us see it for further advice before submission.

    13. Send to POPLA.

    14. Await POPLA (positive) result with PCN cancelled

Yes I say appeal early, now to JAS, using the template first appeal that I wrote in the NEWBIES sticky thread. You will see that I specifically mention JAS as being a small-fry firm where I think it's best to send the template sooner rather than waiting for a NTK which will never come. JAS farm their cases out to debt collectors to send rubbish junk mail (no big deal, only poxy letters!) but to make things simple and get this to POPLA stage quicker, send the template now.

Then read post #3 of the same NEWBIES thread, for 'How to win at POPLA'. This is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel you know and I am amazed that after being advised to read a few other JAS threads the penny didn't immediately drop that OF COURSE you will win this at POPLA on appeal!
i've been doing some reading around this, and i'm not sure that i should contest the ticket...
Really not sure what you read but it wasn't the right thing! None of your appeal wording will even touch upon 'what happened' because it's all about what JAS did wrong, not you!

thanks coupon-mad, will edit the template and email it across this evening.

do i need to remove the part about "your NTK failed to make the basis of the charge clear" as i'm contacting them before a NTK is sent by them to me in the post?

    :money:

p.s. yes i removed that bit from a previous post, i was writing as i went along and hadn't got to all the good stuff! my bad :)

excellent... so all I've done is:

    - copy/paste the "THE FIRST APPEAL TO THE PPC" template
    - make the edit as suggested above
    - add my PCN number and today's date
    - add my name/email address at the bottom

...so I can click 'send'? :) (their appeals contact is email only)

little update - still nothing from JAS, 6 weeks after the ticket was issued.

am I right in thinking they have 56 days to contact me (with a NTK), and then it's all null and void. so d-day is 29th April...
