Yes, if you are classed as being responsible for the child and that child is normally living with you.

If you are the person claiming child benefit for the child - which would usually mean the child is living with you full-time-then yes. If you look after them but they don't live with you -then no.

  • What if I am a registered childminder and look after other children too?

    You need to elaborate more.

do you mean you are a Registered childminder and you want to claim WTC due to your low income

Or your son/saughter want to claim The childcare allowance as part of their tax credit application, for you looking after their child

Or you as the Grandparenr have parental responsibility and want to claim the childcare allowance, whilst someone else looks after them

Are you talking about claiming Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit ?

If you are a registered childminder (and look after others peoples kids too) then yes, your children can claim tax credits based on you looking after your grandchild

It does'nt matter if you are a registered child minder or not if the children do not live with you and you are not responsible for them you can't claim tax credits for them.

EDIT: removed incorrect info....the above only applies if you are trying to claim CTC.

Op which tax credits are you querying? WTC or CTC?
  • I am a registered childminder on a low income who looks after my own grandchild and another child. I need to know if I can claim working tax credits.
