Double Income No Kids Yet :D (something I was a long time ago!!)

That's the one greent, seems a dim & distant memory now doesn't it?! Happy 2015 to you :)

    What's a DINKY? :rotfl:

My Ds's hair also grows like weeds, I've thought about cutting it myself but I'm not sure I'm brave enough  the last time I took him to have it cut it cost £17.50  I can't afford to pay that every few weeks. Let me know how you get on.

Enjoy your lunch out today, I'm meeting a friend at our powshe garden centre today, it's extortionate to eat there so I'll just be having a coffee and a Danish :p I'll take a packed lunch for us all to eat en route to see dh :rotfl::cool: we live a glamorous life don't we ;)

DINKY's Crumpets - something we'll never be again  :rotfl:

We've been cutting DS' hair with clippers every 6 weeks since he was 8 months, he's a total hairbear! Our old clippers were wearing out after 7 years. It depends if they sit still as to the success, & in my experience how much chocolate is offered ;) DS would never have coped with the hairdresser when he was younger, he might well manage now but I'm too tight to pay, so back into the black bin liner he goes (make a head shaped hole in the bottom of one & stick it on, good tip for keeping hair off them as that inevitably leads to a strop :D)

I like your style re: the powshe ;) garden centre. You'll be taking a packet of biscuits to the cinema next like me :rotfl:

Happy new year to all at Crumpet Cottage!

  • Honestly Ed, take a tip from me - get out as much as you can over the next few months & enjoy meals a deux: sit in comfortable silence or enjoy a simple uninterrupted conversation. Because before you know it, you'll be at the same eatery, with one of you quickly cutting food up into bite size mouthfuls to be eaten one handed with a fork whilst the other is standing up joggling a baby :D. And fast forward three years & you won't be able to get to the end of articulating an order for a kids meal deal before the wittering for a CBeebies app on the tablet drowns your voice out  <not at all bitter or wistful for former status of DINKYs> ;) :rotfl:

Happy new year Ed, 2015's going to be brill :T
That's made me laugh so much :)

You forget all this as the kids grow up.

Happy New Year to you x x x

  • And to you Tilly, hope 2015's as good as it looks to be for you (I lurk on your thread but seem to have so little time to reply!) Nice to know you forget these bits of child rearing, when you're in the middle of it it feels like it's ingrained on your soul  :rotfl:

One of the most important things to remember once you have children is 'this, too, shall pass' - the bad bits (sleepless nights, seemingly never-ending unsuccessful potty training, etc) don't actually last that long (it doesn't seem like that at the time, but it's true!! :D) - but also remember to take time out, look at and appreciate the wonder that children are - their sheer zest for life, thirst for knowledge (sometimes hard to appreciate when you're asked 'But why?' for the 20th time before breakfast!:rotfl:) and the total sponges that they are of everything that is around them. Take time to make memories - one of my resolutions for this year - important for both myself and the children :) xx

greent that is all so true! I was for discussing it with my mum yesterday, DD is going to nursery on Weds & Mum was saying it'll be nice for me to have some time to myself, & I was saying I don't feel I need it as badly this time, with DS (who had undiagnosed Autism & ADHD & was frantic :D) I needed a break but as DD is my last (& a zillion times easier!) I'm loathe to let my baby go! My mum only had me & is fascinated watching my experience as a mum of two, she didn't believe me when I said even the sleepless nights are easier to bear & are even slightly enjoyable when experience tells you that they're not going to last forever :o. I like to think that I've drunk the joy out of my two, I've been incredibly lucky to have them & it's such an adventure isn't it?

I lurk on your diary greent, I must find the time to get writing & get involved! I loved the sound of your Christmas :). Hope 2015 is a great year for your whole family :T

We've got 2 lots of 2 - our eldest 2 are 17 and 14, the youngest 2 9 & 5 - we enjoyed the second two more as tinies - we knew it wasn't going to last, we had the knowledge and confidence we didn't have the first time around - and I gave up work and had the time and energy that I didn't have before (was focussed on my job with first 2 - too much at times:() - and we knew that moments were to be grabbed when they could away from the sheer drudgery that having small children involves :D Not sure I could have coped with 4 small ones at once, though - like I've seen others do ! :D

As to letting my baby go.... I still refer to DS3 as the baby :) Not helped by the fact that (at 5 1/2) he wears age 3 clothes :D I'm not in a hurry for him to grow up - but he is more independent than a lot of his friends - I think having older siblings (and also several of them, so you need to make yourself known in our house, - or risk getting overlooked!) helps! :D

We held out on the new fangled modern technology thing till DS was 5, then we got him a Kindle Fire (as it has Parental Free Time & the screen is 30 times tougher than plastic apparently, v useful for Mr Destructive as he's known in this house :D.) We didn't have iPads or similar ourselves, the Kindle has become the family tablet, so it's not like he's iChild or anything ;). And truthfully he's spent more time this year playing with his toys than the Kindle, I think it is possible to encourage that more traditional play even at 7 if it's done carefully. I might get him a cup & ball, or maybe a peg dolly & transport him back to the 1950s :rotfl:

Your family sounds lovely greent :). In another world I'd have loved to have had more, but it just wasn't to be. I have a few friends who have 4 & they all say it's easier than 3! I can't work that one out but I'm sure they know what they're on about :D
