It is my responsibilty to hire and fire if every chef dropped a commis for struggling there would be no chefs in the world. A head chef should nurture a commis and develop them.

And your role model comment. Only 1 person saw that and it was between 2 people who just split up so once again its not relevant but i appreciate your concern. I am a good role model :)
So why not spend the time just doing that then and dont bring your personal issues to work!

What is your gripe with me? From the first post you it is like you are looking for a fight. If my commis has someone with her on her section it will teach her how to delegate. She is a commis the lowest position for a chef and lacks confidence. She is to shy to delegate when she needs help. We tell her to hit the panic button if she needs help. I do everything to help her and spending my time looking up ways to get a temporary pair of hands to assist her and increase her confidence by not feeling the lowest in the kitchen would also benefit her and the person on the work activity because they will develop new skills and have a decent reference.

Because like I and everyone who has been on the WP or is out of work now will say if you have a job PAY THE PERSON TO DO IT!!!

So now you are saying its not voluntary its a temp you are looking for?

What if the person has experince like I have already said and have references?

    1. Gov.uk says the madatory work activity only lasts 4 weeks. If that is not temporary what is?

    2. we do no offer temporary contracts everyone is permanent.

    3. we would request the jobcenter or department that control this we only seek people without experience in order to give them maximum development.

    4. Have you finished trying to start a fight and ruining my thread?

1 - The MWA is NOT the WP!

2 - Why did you mention temp staff?
I do everything to help her and spending my time looking up ways to get a temporary pair of hands to assist her and increase her confidence by not feeling the lowest in the kitchen would also benefit her and the person on the work activity because they will develop new skills and have a decent reference.

3 - It's Jobcentre not jobcenter! And how can you give anyone with no experience MAXIMUM development in just 4 weeks?
Not really helping the person but your chef to be your 'temporary pair of hands to assist her and increase her confidence'

4 - I am not ruining anything you asked a question

If you want help in the kicthen you work in pay the person to do the job.

I have to say OP, regardless of anything else going on in this thread, the problem I have always had with Mandatory Work Experience is that people are forced to do a job, that they could be being paid for, for free.

If you need an extra pair of hands - pay someone a decent wage to do it. You will have plenty of applicants to choose from. Please don't exploit people on JSA. Give them a proper, paid job. The vast majority just want a real job, with real money like everyone else - so give one to someone if you think you need help, even if its only a temporary position. Anything else is just exploiting someone less fortunate than yourself.
  • If you want someone then pay them it really is that simple. Otherwize you must know what happens in kitchens when people are resentfull?...they do things like spit in the food. Do you really want this in your kitchen?.
Why dont you go and work for nothing and see how you like it. If someone wants experience then they can go to college not be exploited by you.

You can put posters on ignore, I've not been to this board before but I'd do that if I were you. Just click on their name and click on 'add AP007 [or whoever] to your ignore list'. Then you don't see their threads. I find it saves a lot of boredom.

FWIW, I think this is a great idea. You're giving someone some genuine experience whilst helping out someone at work who is struggling. Hopefully they'll be inspired to go and get qualified: there always seems to be work around for chefs.

How is training over 4 weeks in a professional kitchen exploiting someone? We could offer a lot like getting a person a level 2 food hygiene certificate providing them with a reference tip share free meal on duty and teaching new skills which could give them new direction in life or is working in a charity shop which they could arrange anyway without the work activity not actually real exploitation? I know if i was in that position which i would prefer.
