    Thanks misgrace!

The silk doesn't look hugely shiny and it's not new either. It has been hidden under (revolting) wallpaper for I guess around 7 + years. I'm just wondering if I can get away with using the matt on it.

If thats the case, then what I would do is to sand down the walls, and try and test area, IE an alcove, or something quite small.
Put your matt on, and if its going to craze/crack/flake etc you would see it between after you did the test area, and approx 3-7 days.

I have just painted my bedroom 4 times with B&Q El Cheapo paint. The problem that I had was using it over filler (screwfix decorators filler, polyiller and one-strike). It just kept cracking, and cracking and cracking. In the end I bought Dulux one-coat - and it did what it said on the tin. I will never never never buy B&Q paint again (perhaps it was a duff batch but I won't take that chance). Just thought I would share that thought with you.

I had a bad experience many years ago with Homebase own make paint. It dried very patchy and spots that looked like grease would appear randomly. Repainted with Dulux and with just one coat the finish was fab. I did take back one and 1/2 tins to Homebase and told them I wasn't happy with the quality and they didn't want to know. Just refunded me the whole tin and wouldn't even let me fill in a customer comment form. Went to B&Q to get new paint and while looking on the shelves for a similar colour in Dulux (not a B&Q employee) said that they can mix colours in store if I couldn't find what I was looking for. As you do I then told him the sorry saga of my Homebase paint experience and how I'm now sticking to Dulux which I should have done in the first place etc. and he said he was the Dulux rep and gave me a £5 Dulux voucher to spend and asked me if I would write some comments on a feedback form.:T

You got a result there poppy, dulux are very very good at refunding you money.
A few years ago a client chose a colour, and on the colour chart and the tin it did look like the right colour, when I painted the room, it did look slightly different, but I think the light had a lot to do with it, certain areas look darker or lighter.
The client was not happy whatsoever, so she rang Dulux customer service, they said they would send someone down to have a look at it, the next day they phoned her, said they wouldnt come round, but gave her the full refund back, plus an extra £25 as a show of goodwill.

She still has the same colour, infact I was round there the other month freshen up parts of the house as they are selling it, and she wanted me to repaint the room, yep, you guessed it, the same flippen colour lol.

Well I went off to get my Wickes paint today and.............................

I hate it! The texture is vile and the colour is nothing like the colour card. I am going to go for the same thing in the silk and in a darker colour.

Oh No Flimsy!!!!, you didnt go out and buy Wickes paint?

Its the worst paint there is, out of all the DIY sheds, I would say B&Q is the best, and Wickes is way down at the bottom.
Thier silk is like P*** water.

Why dont you pick the colour you like, and then get it made up either in Dulux or crown.:D

Thank I used this and got the same, yellow like patches. I will invest in some better paint I think. I also had some patches where the paint flaked off

  • B&Q's economy white emulsion paint is awful, total waste of time and money.
As soneone said earlier in the thread, Wlikinsons (Wilko's) is good - nice and thick and good coverage.

I started painting my newly plastered walls with Gliddens Contract Matt yesterday- as recommended on this forum! :money:

I can't complain about the quality at £15 for 10 litres, the coverage is excellent and I would definately recommend it to anyone who has a lot of painting to do. I bought mine at a dulux decorator centre.
