You could have a Freeview or Freesat PVR.
Humax is the best make.
Humax Direct have managers specials. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
How much do you want to spend?
Do you want to record Freesat programmes via your dish, or do you want a Freeview box to receive from an aerial?0 -
And, do you want to keep anything that you've recorded by copying it to a DVD disc, or are you happy to leave it on an internal hard disk where you can only watch it on that device?
If you don't want to keep stuff, a PVR can be quite inexpensive, especially if you go for a lower-cost brand, and isn't necessarily a poor choice. Humax are good, though, no doubt about it.0 -
Do you have an aerial?
Do you want on demand stuff? (iPlayer etc)
Budget?
Top suggestion for me would be a Humax Freetime box.0 -
Hi thanks for the replies. Yes we have an aerial. I don't need a top of the range one that can copy DVDs just a good quality one that records and pauses programmes. It would be handy to have on demand etc as although I can watch them on my laptop I prefer to watch them on my tv which is nt hd either.
I had a look in Tesco s. And they have a Goodman s Recorder for £95 and they had some humax for about £200.0 -

Hi yes that sounds about the right price.Aren t these you view boxes the ones that BT use. I m with them for broadband and they have them for £5 a month but I might prefer my own.0 -
Yes they are, although BT have recently introduced an own branded one.
The one shown is the original YouView box, Just remember its best to have an unlimited bb contract as catch up players use a lot of data. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Go for the YouView box above then - it's the best solution to connect to an aerial unless you don't want to spend that money, or don't have internet. It'll connect with SCART but would very much benefit from an HDTV.0
