Dodgy Main Dealer

Hi
I have worked at many different franchised dealers for near on 20years and at HQ of a German manufacturer group for 10 years, I have seen many dodgey warranty claims go through to the manufacturer, it is like an open cheque book to some franchised dealers.
The trouble being when the Dealer gets an Audit the manufacturer will only take samples of jobs, ie will give a computer generated list of job cards they would want to see, if they pass this then its a pass to the audit, if they fail the manufacturer will claw back the money and could dig deeper if needed.
They do not go through every warranty job card.
I know of a Japanese Manufacturer go into a franchised dealer that had already failed twice, failed again and closed them down...instantly, manufacturers do not mess about with things like this
As for trading standards/police, I cannot see these getting involved with false warranty claims to the manufacturer, to be honest I cannot see the manufacturer wanting these involved either, if you are going to whistle blow then contact the Manufacturer...but you will need very good proof, speak to the warranty manager of HQ in the first instance get their advice and what is required, they will openly listen and advise if they think a FD is ripping them off.
As for the debate between Motorguy and Horizon, sorry to say motorguy is correct you have to evaluate if these are worth while, for you PERSONALLY, we all have different needs/wants and circumstances.
eg if you have a bad driving record and have wrote off 3 cars 6 accidents and 20 near misses in 3years would GAP be worth while..hell yes
Careful driver never had an accident in 40 years motoring..Gap Insurance..You take your chances and save some cash.
@Motorguy, like the way you mentioned a z4 roof...you know already then

I know you were using a wild example to demonstrate the point, but its also worth remembering that its not just about you on the road, its all the other nutters out there who are likely to crash in to you.
As both of us have said though, its about weighing it all up and making your own decision, not about blindly ruling it outCar_Complaints wrote: »

Actually i hadnt - BUT it looks like something that if it goes wrong, its going to go wrong expensively. My wife might have no trouble at all with the car between now and then which might taint results in favour of not taking the warranty, but we'll review cost v risk at the time and see what we think.
If it was something less complex or more mainstream i probably wouldnt bother.0 -

Fully understand its the other idiots and a case of "you never know" it was an extreme example, but you get my point

There has been a few examples of the roof failing on the z4, like you say you may not suffer the fault, it could been a lot worse, you could of bought a VW Eos and mentioned the roof0 -
Doesn't make it right though, does it!
Seeing as we're on money saving expert website, I'm sure we all know Martin Lewis's thoughts on needless insurance like gap and buying things like cars on finance.
Yes. He fully advocates it. They've even just put up a car finance guide.

We've genuinely had no issues with the car. Its been great. She had a 3.0Si z4 Coupe previously which was fantastic too.
We'll see how things go in the next year, then see what they quote us for the extended warranty and make a judgement call from there.0 -
Jeez, post after post after post all by yourself. In the words of Vic and Bob, "He wouldn't let it lie!"
Ok, so you say Martin "fully advocates it".
I pay more heed to this bit myself, quoted from the guide you link to above, "...... do you have any savings? If so, it’s often better to use those than to do any form of borrowing. (Have a read of our Use Savings Instead of Borrowing guide for why.)"0 -

Oh aye. I didnt say he said it was the "only" choice - but they're definitely not against it - which you said they were.
Clearly if you have the cash lying about and its not serving you better elsewhere then buy the car with it - well 95 times out of a hundred that will be cheaper, dependant on various factors.0 -

Genius, would never of thought that.
Dont you think this is going a little off topic, to start the op is talking about manufacturers warranty, not extended warranty too totally different things.
This thread is not about slating all the other types of warranties and insurances. the op is in need of help and advice regarding, what could be a very serious matter, to add it sounds like it is causing stress in the workplace, I really do not think they want to buy bloody gap insurance/extended warranty or interested in your opinion on it.0 -
Hey newbie, you might like to tone down your responses.0
-
And you might want to stop talking dribble and concentrate on the op's question..not your personal opinion on the insurances/warranties0
